How do you keep your fingers warm in this cold?! - FreezingInMN

Posted: Jan 08, 2015

Any tips on how to keep my fingers warm during this crappy weather? There is a blizzard warning where I am with 30-40 mph winds and -30 wind chills.  My apartment is freezing.  Turned the heat up but my fingers are like ice!  Stay warm everyone! lol

Put a hot water bottle in your lap & warm your hands when you get a stretch of dictation that doesn't require constant typing or whenever you need it. Soda bottles work just as good as any other bottle. If that fails, could always get a small pet for your lap. The heat on lap can warm you a bit in multiple directions. I used to put a small space heater on my desk & aim it at my keyboard. It's not as cold where I live now, but I still use hot water bottles now & then.

I bought a pair of very inexpensive gloves and - wannie

cut just the fingertips off. This helps quite a bit.

Did that with an old pair of Isotoners - eons ago.sm

That was before the typing/gaming gloves were on the market. If I had been business savvy, I could have been a gazillionaire. Sigh.

I type with a heating pad on my lap and warm - SM

my hands every now and again. I have wristies and I type in my Snuggie. I also have a space heater under my desk for my toes. I'm cold natured to begin with and my daughter is always rolling their eyes at me when I'm working because she says "you'd think we're living an igloo in Alaska!"

Cold natured, too, and I live in Arizona! My family is - always giving me a hard time...sm

about how many things I try to stay warm. This year I am having luck with a small electric blanket that I tuck under my feet and then I can tuck my hands under it now and then, too.

Thanks ladies! I think I will get a space heater and gloves...and a hot water bottle..lol nm - FreezingInMN

There are space heaters and then there are SAFE, very effective space heaters. I swear by Delonghi diathermic oil filled radiators. They contain a special material which heats quickly, but radiates heat longer. There are no exposed hot wires, etc., so they are safe even around pets. Some have thermostats.

I use one and find that it is economical. They actually warm the room, and because they radiate heat slowly, you don't get that hot-freezing-hot-freezing effect you see with those dinky glowing-wire gadgets. You don't need a blower with them, so they don't cause wind-chill to counter their own heat, and they are nearly silent. Mine clicks quietly when the thermostat goes on and off, but that's it. You can put it right next to your desk, or even under it (there is a short kind) and still hear fine.

In fact, I had a tower style blower type that I gave away because it was noisy, smelled like hot plastic all the time, and heated poorly.

I posted a link to one on Amazon below. That is where I got mine. It arrived in great condition.

Freezing here too! 10-degrees outside and my toes - are cold!! Laying in bed with

a heating pad on them trying to pull myself up out of the bed from underneath the warm blanket to log on and type a few more reports before I call it a night...BURRRRR....

plug that heating pad in at your desk, throw it on floor - and put feet on top

I cover up with an electric blanket while i work and have a heating pad for my back also. im toasty!

cheap gloves - mickey mouse

Cheap gloves with the tips cut-out so my fingers can touch the keys.

Fingerless knit gloves. I "prime" them by - warming them on the heater, first.

I also take advantage of times when my hands are getting unbearably cold to wash a whole lotta dishes!

I have a space heater. When it gets below - 70 am uncomfortable

I close off my workroom so it can stay comfy. Now as far as bedtime, I do not like climbing in a cold bed, my husband does not like a lot of warmth on his side. I have a half bed electric blanket that has 3 temps, low, medium and high. It stays on about 2 hours. I turn it on a few minutes before I climb in, toasty when I snuggle down and by the time it goes off I am in sleepy town. I love my warm bed.

I bought a pair of HandEze by 3M over internet. Best money I ever spent. Not only do they keep my hands warm, they help the flow of blood and my carpal tunnel does not bother me. I highly recommend them.

So Much For Keeping Fingers And Toes Crossed!

The only jobs that were actualy transcription for me today were the worst 4 doctors on the planet!  I am pulling my hair out today over the 10 reports that had to be sent to the MMEs with all of the holes! Also, to the MME who corrected 1 of my reports: I know that numbers are not spelled out, however, the doctor said "325 one or two a day"   He did not say milligram, therefore, you are not supposed to leave 2 numbers next to eachother, so I spelled it out.  If I knew we w ...
