Does SR cause hand, wrist, arm pain? CT? - just curious

Posted: Nov 29, 2012

Has anyone else noticed extreme pain pop up since SR became the norm?  I used to get tired fingers, but nothing like has come on the last few years.  I'm on the verge of surgery from tennis elbow on both sides, CT on both sides, can't move my hands for a half hour after I wake up in the morning, etc.

All the years of typing didn't bring this on, but 3 years of SR has.  Seems obvious to me!

I have trouble with my right arm. Too much use of the mouse. I use keyboard combinations as much as possible, but it's actually less movement of one's hands. I also find that I tend not to sit in my chair properly when I'm working on SR. I tend to lean more forward with my entire body. The system used by the company I am working for is so crappy that I also struggle not to delete the entire report and just type it, which at the price per line would be insane, so frustration sets in, thus headaches occur more often. Just not healthy in so many ways.

I noticed the same - Typing 24/7

It seems the keyboard commands most used are the ones that are the most awkward in position. It seems like they could come up with some key combinations that are a little more natural.

Really surprised by the lack of replies - I thought there would be a lot

of people with this issue?

Or do your hands hurt too bad to type a reply? lol

I've noticed right elbow pain and left pinky finger pain since doing heavy VR. - t23b

My platform doesn't have a word-highlighter, so I follow along with the scroll keys, and lots of my shortcut functions use the CTRL key. My "home keys" are now the scroll keys for my right hand and the CTRL key for my left hand. I apparently don't even use my right thumb anymore. The left side of my spacebar is worn smooth, but the right side looks brand new, and my CTRL key on the left side has little "marks" in it from my left pinky fingernail.

I have more problems now than I did with straight typing - forsure

I have started having numb fingers and hands which wake me up at night. I'm scheduled for a more in depth nerve conduction study because the one at the doctor's office showed abnormalities, but they referred me to a neurologist for a more in depth one. I didn't start having such problems until I started doing SR/VR. :/

Less pain with SR - cr

I was recently diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands, though fortunately not usually symptomatic - unless I have to do straight typing. I much prefer SR from that standpoint.
