Does anybody have left wrist pain - from ctrl key use in ASR?

Posted: Jun 20, 2012

My left wrist is killing me.  I have been doing ASR for years but lately my wrist hurts much worse.  There is probably going to be a syndrome named for this. MModal wrist syndrome or something. I have also had 3 carpal tunnel surgeries.  It's ridiculous to be killing our health for peanuts.

My right pinky and ring fingers are bad - from the arrow keys

And my right wrist hurts more from the angle to reach the arrow keys. I hate ASR. I have severe neck pain too now! UGH, gets worse every day.

My neck hurts, too. - Miserable

Have had ESI in the neck which helped for a little bit, but who can afford $500 a whack? That's after insurance. Wonder if there is a category for an MT disability with SS?

Yep, they're forcing us to use repetitive keys for ASR, and it's going to cause - RSI even worse

....and, actually, any of you who have this left wrist pain: You might do some researching on "de Quervain tendinitis." A few years ago, I was having terrible pain in that wrist at the base of the thumb, which I could tell was from excessive toggling with the Cntrl+Tab keys we used to have to do at my old job. My mgr sent me to Employee Health, who sent me to the work comp doctor. He diagnosed it, and my pain was classic in type and location for de Quervain's. Just a thought.

I can't remember now what all he did to treat me for it, but I do remember he did two (cortisone?) injections (at two different visits) and had me wear a splint for a while. Probably took Advil, too, but I don't remember now. But, anyway, no surgery or anything too drastic. It did go away, but I can usually feel when it's getting over-used again and try to change up my movement if I can.

This job is just all-around BAD on our bodies--hands, wrists, elbows, neck, shoulders, backs, rear ends, eyes, ears, and sometimes heads!

not any more :-) - MT Gone

You know, it's funny in a sad sort of way. We were told the line of hokey about how much better VR would be for our wrists, which I had never had trouble with before. After I had been doing ASR my wrists started aching, popping, and snapping. That's not why I got done, I would have dealt with the pain if I was still making a good wage, but having been away from VR for nearly a year now, my wrists are back to normal. One more line of garbage we were fed I guess.
