Counting the days - Drudgery

I'm hoping to transition out of MT this summer and I just can't wait. Just got nitpicked over how many spaces I put after periods. Really?! BOS says 1 or 2 is fine as long as you're consistent. Sick of listening to the ESL dictator who replaced a prolific dictator that spoke English clear as a bell. Had it with the folks who make up abbreviations that don't exist (HLD = Hyper Lipi Demia?), the people who don't spell difficult names, and the dictators that are so disorganized that they repeat things 3 or 4 times, then flip pages of the medical record for minutes at a time. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

I'm so ashamed that I'm typing this with a bag over my head. It's true. Every chance I get, I throw an extra space in with a period to pad my line count.

I don't know what came over me. I wasn't raised this way, but the thought of the extra 42 cents that I'd get in about a hundred years was just too much for me.

It was the promise of bright lights, the private jet, the mansion, the Paris designer dresses that dazzled me, and led me astray from the path of upright righteousness that I learned at my mother's knee.

I am so ashamed.

Hopefully u are joking. anyway, just letting you know that some platforms can be set to only pay for 1 space after periods as opposed to 2. This can cut your line count somewhat and could make up discrepancy between what you percieve you are getting and what you actually get. I came close to getting fired because I questioned a discrepancy in line counts and I had to pursue the issue to get even that answer. I do believe they honestly are able to "skim" lines with their platforms, but not sure how, but this is just one example. and what can we do about it??? nothing.

I just hate cherry pickers more than anything. they obviously feel that they "deserve" the better dictations more than you do! the entitlement society! grrrr.

cherry picking, unless things are different elsewhere--I've only worked for MQ and I've never had to deal with it, mainly because it is impossible for anyone to cherry pick. How does any company allow that?

I worked at MD-IT/Transform for a while and it astonished me how it was set up. I could see the whole queue of jobs and click on any particular one I wanted, whether it was first in line or not. You could also set it up to just automatically download the next job in line. There were nights, though, that the oldest jobs were not the ones leaving the queue and yet the queue was getting smaller. It never made sense to me that it was set up that way, but they didn't ask for my opinion.

Anyone know of a good software that automatically counts your character/line for you... Other than the word count feature in Microsoft? Mistake of working for friend doing subcontracting. I am paid 13 cpl but very hard to hear doctor; it's on tape, takes forever to type. So far this week, I have pended 300 lines to QC -- all VR lines -- those are the *actual* lines. If counted as converted lines, then it's only 150 lines. Do they "convert" those pended lines for VR? They should - if we don't get paid for a full line of VR, then we shouldn't get charged for pending full VR lines. Dontcha think?? ...

You are misinformed. DocQScribe is an excellent format to work on BUT it counts in a way that will shock you. AND can change from day to day, minute to minute. The program that is used to control it is called DocQMANAGE. In DocQManage are things you will not believe. You might have access to PART of DocQManage, but not ALL OF IT. My job is transitioning to from straight transcription to speech recognition. This is what is being offered: 0.045 per line A line is defined as 2 edited lines = 1 regular MT typing line of 65 characters So in summary, 1. My cents per line is going to be cut in half going to SR editing. 2. The edited lines is also being cut in half because it takes 2 edited lines to equal 1 transcribed line. Does this sound right?
