Concentration with long reports - anon

I really need help with this. I am great with my speed and concentration on reports up to a length of about 6 minutes. If the report is longer than that, I tend to loose concentration, veer off, want to get up and change laundry or check email. VERY DISTRACTED. Any suggestions how to stay focused?

I despise long reports. I have some that can run 16-20 pages. I would say maybe make a goal of doing so many minutes of dictation on each report and then take a short breather. :D

Sustained focus for longer than that is not really possible. If your limit is 6 minutes, take a quick break to do something very different, like get up to get water, dust a table, or do energetic exercise.

With any specialty not Psychiatry, I start losing focus after about 8-10 minutes. I can go on and on with Psych reports and have them done no matter the length because I absolutely enjoy the specialty. For all others, especially Ops, I will do as much as I can and take a short break to walk to the kitchen and get something ice cold to drink or some frozen fruit. I have also started using aromatherapy. I have a reed diffuser set up with rosemary essential oil and sweet almond as the carrier oil. Since having the rosemary in my office, I have noticed a huge difference in my ability to last longer on reports I don't necessarily enjoy as much. Sometimes I pick up the diffuser and inhale the scent and it is amazing how alert I feel. I also have a small bottle of peppermint essential oil that helps with focus as well as headaches that I sometimes get. Another thing I have to mix things up as far as scents is a wax warmer. The one I am using right now is sugared melon kiwi and I just got some lemon too. I also use something else that does not work for everyone, but you might try it. I use binaural beats for concentration and focus. I find them on YouTube and play them at just barely audible with the volume of the file I am transcribing or take a short breather and just listen to the binaural beats for a few seconds or couple of minutes at a time. You might be amazed at some of the things that sound strange that actually work. I honestly didn't believe binaural beats would work, but they do for me and they also have some that help with headaches. Hope this helps.

I have a great job working at home editing. I love it. I've been in transcription 12 years but lately have the worst concentration ever. I find myself getting distracted by the Internet..Facebook, Google, Yahoo, CNN. You name it I'm there in between reports. I know I'm not giving it 100% at work and wish I could concentrate!! I love doing op reports even with the mandatory standards as I can insert my expansions and am very familiar with them (when I get my primary). Now it's all ASR and I have to use those standards. Anyone out there who works remotely for a hospital.. can you tell me how your QA is done. Wondering if most are like my employer. Our QA is done sporadically.. maybe twice a year. If a report is really bad, cant even find the patient- when it is uploaded and we have a note to QA, is that report sent to be charted and the doctors, or does QA fix it, whatever, and THEN is sent? Do we do anything different so it does NOT get sent to the client first? Thanks you guys!! ...

I was speaking with a friend of mine and he just got the last bonus and then was told he was not supposed to get the bonus because the hospital he works on doesn't get bonuses so not to expect another one and then 2 weeks ago they put him on 100% QA 5 reports a day for 5 days and then extended it for another 5 days because they said he had 98% though on the bottom of his timecard is showing 99% and the feedback has been 99%. In the past 3 days I have transcribed reports from as far back as January 2013. Ridiculous is all I can say. 3 reports today were from June of 2013. until I realized that NONE of those count as far as my pay is concerned...not a one of those 100% reports matter not one iota....they are not "post-audit" reports..... Then I look in FIESA again and realize there is ONE post-audit report and one alone....and IT has a 98.9% score! Numerous times over the last month, I have noticed reports that I did NOT pend to QC for any issues are being reviewed and going towards my 10%. I have had at least half a dozen already.
