Any ideas for wording? - sm

I am rewriting my resume to get out of the MT field. Was wondering if anyone had any words or phrases that might help describe strengths the average MT has that would transfer to the "real world" ? Thanks so much.

Several strengths - sm

I didn't play up all what other poster said, but I did include it for sure.

I made mine to read that I had experience in multiple different software databases--non-MT companies are intimidated by medical terminology. I did not play up my medical terminology but duly noted it--I did seriously play up my attention to detail, typing skills, and ability to work independently.

By saying you have experience in multiple databases, you are including the fact that you can easily learn new software programs.

Also definitely include typing speed, grammar skills, and working independently, etc.! Good luck!

Research skills - My thoughts

I would include your research skills and vocabulary and language skills. I also assume that you learn quickly, that is definitely a plus. If you have knowledge of multiple databases, list them. Typing skills don't mean much anymore, sorry to say, as everyone who comes through the door will be able to type, but if you've done data entry include it(that is different than typing). Medical terminology is obvious if you were an MT. Do you know Excel, Access or PowerPoint? Employers are looking for those skills. You need to tailor your resume to the job. An employer may not want someone who can work independently, they may want a team player. If you have done volunteer work, include that. Also include any continuing ed classes that are work related.

Doesn't work and play well with others, not willing to work on group projects, not willing to follow direction with a mind of one's own. Self motivation is not the same thing as independence.

"works independently with little supervision." use the words to accent your strengths. "attention to detail" and "detail-oriented" are so overused. better to say "ability to research problems to resolution". and instead of "multi-tasking" say "management of several computer operations simultaneously." saying the same thing with different words. use thesaurus built into Word. we're word people, that's our strength, so use that. also don't forget, first and foremost you are an editor. find words that convey that. good luck.

Tried testing for Accentus, but my foot pedal would not play the voice file. It did absolutely nada. I could not go backward or fast forward. I was able to hear the test voice file just fine, so I went ahead and hit the tab to take the test. I transcribed 4 words, went to back up, and I couldn't. Hello all, I have been in the transcription business now for 8 years and I have yet to find a comfortable chair! Comfort is everything when you are trying to stay in one spot to get a decent line count and when your butt is numb or tailbone hurts it's hard to do that! Can anyone give me insight as to what I may be doing wrong here? I applied to a large company as an IC for evening shift. I passed the first interview, took the test and was told I scored very high and the QA score on the testing was 99.9%. I have 20 years experience.
