I don't know why I picked $15 an hour for this little experiment, but for some reason it strikes me that across the board that's about what a lot of MTs are averaging these days. Could be a bit more, a bit less, but I had to pick a number.
The experiment:
1. Identify other jobs paying similar rates.
2. Select some that generally come close to what I might call the "ambience" of MT as it now exists.
I think I've found it, and here is where I wish with all my heart that I could post a link but I'll have to do the best I can by providing enough key words that you can possibly find it yourself on Google.
What you get to do in this job is live in a 39-foot trailer in the woods of Missouri (near the east gate of Ft. Wood) where there is no TV reception, one country radio station and very limited cell phone reception. Your days will not be idle in this bucolic paradise, for you will spend your time scraping the skins of beavers, coons, possums, fox, bobcats and other critters. (Note: Must be very good at scraping, as your employer doesn't want holes all over the skins.)
The camper has a full bath, washer and dryer, and one bedroom as well as a hide-a-bed sofa when you wish to entertain. If you live close, you can commute, and heck, if you do a little trapping yourself your employer will probably buy all your skins.
Oh, yes - and you're an independent contractor, too!
People on the trapping forum where this job was posted mentioned that the job might be a bit smelly, but hey - we're used to smelly stuff, right?!
I don't think I should have to point out how easy it should be for any modern-day MT to slip right into this job and feel right at home.
Soon I hope to post more opportunities like this, so I'd appreciate it if all of you wouldn't gallop into the woods of Missouri like a herd of turtles, which would scare away the critters and ruin this fine job for someone.
