$12.00 AN HOUR - Belle

I have 25 years of MT experience. With the decline of the MT profession, I applied for a data entry position at $12.00 an hour. However, this company has a transcription department and has me doing transcription now, but they are still paying me $12.00 an hour. Any thoughts?

$12 sounds pretty good to me but the question is, are you an employee with PTO, paid holidays, health insurance, etc. Those things add value to your overall salary. Also do you work on-site or at home? Does the company do annual performance reviews with a chance of a raise (unlike MT)? Personally, I think you are lucky to have a guaranteed $$-hour job. I'd keep it and see what happens.

With the way MT is, there is no gaurantee this company will still have an MT dept in another year or two tuey may decide to contract it out to another MTSO. Also, being paid $12 an hour is better than waiting for work during slow periods, you do your 8 hours and thats the end of it. Will the job offer annual increases?

If there are benefits, especially decent health insurance available, regular hours, etc., I would see if I could find out what other people doing MT are making. If comparable, keep it and do a great job. Some days I make 10/hr depending on dictator, and had no work for almost 2 weeks with the holidays and weather where my accounts are. I am looking and would accept that with the above positives. Good luck! I am 25+ years also and barely making 1/2 what I did even 4 years ago.

Lucky you! With all the layoffs and buyouts, I would love to find something even at $10 an hour as would so many other MTs. Glad you have something else to do with the company if they outsource the transcription.

$12 an hour for every hour you work, guaranteed, is a blessing right now. - As someone else said...

You do your 8 hours, then you're finished and go home to your life. No worries. No stress. You know what your paycheck will be. I'd be thankful for that situation right now.

IF they want to pay you data entry wages tell them you prefer to do data entry. Seems to me data entry would be less stressful and easier than transcription.

I currently make $17 per hour and have excellent bennies too boot. Remote MT for a hospital system. But, who knows how long I will ride this train, with VR coming down the pike. My manager is busy with departmental meetings coordinating efforts...and it is happening SOON.

Sounds good to me - I average $6 an hour (below minimum wage) - Depressed

My transcription job was always paid by the hour. I was laid off and they recently offered me a temp position with them making $12.00 an hour. I was also offered a positon that pays 7.5 and 3.5 cpl. I need to find a job that averages more than $10 an hour. I have 20 years' experience in med trans and am a fast typist, but with the slow platforms and the constant "breakdowns" and being out of work, I am only averaging $10 an hour. I've been doing MT forEVER. Today I pushed the envelope as hard as I could and I transcribed 734 lines in one hour. I was totally "on," dictators were great, and being in the zone helps. I doubt I will ever replicate it, my hands are still trembly! LOL! But I wanted to see what I could do. First of all quality comes before quantity, but I also have so many different physicians that it seems impossible to increase my line count. This is what I made yesterday. It seems to depend on the day. I had so many reports that had big chunks of sentences missing. I'm looking at a job that pays 50-55 dollars per recorded hour of audio. This is interview or straight dictation transcription. Does this sound okay? I'm thinking if it takes me 2 hours to transcribe an hour, that wouldn't be such a bad deal. I'm just not sure how long it would take me. Hello. I've got something I've been wondering about. I know that when saying something like "There is a 2-hour window ..." I should hyphenate 2-hour. What about when the word is plural? I am two months into my first MT position. I get to work at home, which is a wonderful thing for me because my husband is ill. However, I am earning about $4 per hour because I am so slow. Can anyone give me information on companies who hire IC's with a 24-hour turn around time? I want to get my work today and turn it in by a certain time the next day without having to work a schedule or in pools.
