About 2 weeks ago I posted that our company was sold to an Indian entity and expressed some concerns about the future of my job, having been down that road with MT. I had expressed those concerns to my manager, who passed them along to our director of human resources, who contacted me this week to discuss them. I asked her if they had explored at all what happened to MT when the Indian companies came onto (took over) the scene and I explained to her some of the challenges faced by the American MTs now. This is what I was told: Our coding (meaning the hospital to which I am contracted) will not go offshore although some others may see their work being done in India. Then I expressed concerns about what that would do to the wages of those of left coding in the States as company wide wages would need to be equitable. I was told not to worry about the effects of the offshore coding on our domestic facilities but instead that my concern should lie with the advances in computer assisted coding - something I had previously discussed here and expressed concerns about. I was told that computer assisted coding will pretty much be a done deal, the way it will go, and that facilities who cannot keep up with those changes in technology will pretty much be left behind and that this was the reasoning behind this acquisition, to be able to remain competitive in this new and expanding area of computer assisted coding and the change that will bring to our roles as coders. I am now left wondering exactly what those changes will bring and how long it will be. Anybody want to buy lottery tickets???
