When people take the 'Shortcut' to Coding courses, how do they reason it? - Seems Pointless To Me

Posted: Sep 15, 2012

I would like to hear from some coding students who took shortcut coding classes about why they chose to do that? It seems purposeless if your goal is to get a job. It also seems entirely worthless if the goal is to become a professonal coder, because they won't be eligible for the credentials test that counts, the CCS.  Did I miss something?

I don't know, but I just had a horrible thought! Are they going to take this to Barbados too? - Oh my gosh!

Remember on her blog when Kathy said she had taken Andrews course and it was very difficult for her? Then she started a course of her own. I almost can't put this in words because it's so awful, but do you think she's going to do the same thing with coding that she did with MT, take it to Barbados or somewhere else overseas? I wouldn't usually think that someone might do that, but then, she did it once. She may plan to do it again.

I would guess that she will if she can - nm

nm

People who make compromises usually continue making them - So yes she probably will

[ In Reply To ..]
My bet is she'll probably go with India this time instead of Barbados, or maybe the Philippines. It's possible she'll go back to Barbados and teach coding there, but there's more of a market for her in India.

If she were embarrassed by the Barbados fiasco, she wouldn't be still talking about it - i vote yes she will

[ In Reply To ..]
If you read what she has written, there is nothing there about regretting the Barbados fiasco. In fact, she seems proud of it, talking about it as if it were a good thing. I think that means that she didn't learn anything from it and will probably do it again, with coding this time. She doesn't seem to see anything wrong with what most of us consider some pretty disgraceful behavior.

I think it is already offshore - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
If you try to look up her domain name to see where it is regstered, you can't get to it because she hid it through a company that locks up the registration information. Try a WHOIS search and you'll see.

Both of them have offshore contacts, according to their bios and blogs. One said her husband is from Barbados.

If there is no license, that would explain it.

The blog also says she got a "bad grade" on an exam at the end. So bad she almost gave up. Was teaching was the only option? Or the best payback for those who employed her? Or who tried to teach her and had to give that bad grade?

I can't condone her behavior, but maybe she just doesn't know better - This is all just very weird

[ In Reply To ..]
She may even mean well but is just misguided. I don't know. I sure can't condone her behavior in the past or in the present.

What about the phone number? Was it foreign or American? - Puzzled

[ In Reply To ..]
Has anyone called that number? Is it American or overseas?
It does not matter where they are physically - Just where it is registered
[ In Reply To ..]
THEY can be anywhere. What matters is where it is registered.

It looks like there is a foreign connection - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Why would they hide that information? She's apparently proud of her time teaching overseas and doesn't see anything wrong with that. Why would she hide her location or the name of the real owner?

We can assume the worst unless and until they come on here with - explanation or denial

[ In Reply To ..]
We know a few things, but it's beginning to smell and there are too many serious questions.

We know that Kathy took MT training overseas, helping to cut out American MTs. There is nothing to deny there because she seems to be proud of it and includes it as part of her bio.

We know Claudia and how she ran AAMT during her many years as Director.

One thing that is especially disturbing is their hiding of the 3rd partner.

Many AAMT members hold these two responsible for things that had enormous effects on our personal income, yet they aren't hiding their identify. Yet the real owner is being hidden from us. How could that person be so bad that they don't want us to know about him or her?

The only way this will be cleared up is if they come on here and answer these questions truthfully, and that isn't going to happen.

If the 2 of them were strangers to us and there were that 3rd mystery person - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I could understand it if the two of them were strangers to us and the web site were held by some mystery person. That's not the case though. Two people have revealed themselves but the third remains a mystery, whether it's a person or company. It makes me very uncomfortable.
I can understand why they might have hidden Kathy or Claudia - At A Loss
[ In Reply To ..]
I can understand that they would want to hide Claudia because of her less-than-stellar performance with AAMT. I can also understand wanting to hide the identify of Kathy, because she taught overseas and helped take jobs away from American MTs.

What I can't understand is, what does that third owner have that has to be hidden?

Why doesn't someone who knows them ask them to answer some of these questions? I don't like either one of them for what I consider to be good reason, but I can't imagine how the real owner of the web site is so much worse that it requires being kept hidden from us.
Where is this 3rd person coming from? - ???
[ In Reply To ..]
They are not necessarily hiding the owner or a third person. They are likely to be the owners but just do not want you to know where they are registered.

The domain name codingforhcp.com is registered, but it is impossible to know by whom or where it is located. That is because they pay a company to hide that nformation. When you do a WHOIS search, you only get the name of the company.

Online Coding Courses

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here knew of or attended any good acredited online billing and coding schools. Right now we only have one vehicle so I need something that is online and offers financial aid.  My local college does offer it but not online and the classes are at times that I'm working so an online school is what I need. Just A Note About Coding Courses
Sep 03, 2013

Coding courses do not all teach the same thing.  You need to be very aware of that when deciding on one.  A course that looks like a fantastic bargain will contain less. Some teach only outpatient "office" coding.  That does not require as much medical background or as much coding instruction.   They are shorter and less costly.  The AAPC  courses are outpatient only.  25% of these coders are unable to find jobs, especially without experience. Others teach bo ...

Getting Unsoliticed Spam From Coding For MTs Courses
Sep 13, 2012

Watch where you leave your name, phone number, and/or e-mail unless you don't mind getting spam e-mail (mostly) and unwelcome phone calls. I don't think you can get them to stop unless you want to get a reply with more pressure to enroll. In the future I will be very careful about putting my e-mail or phone number on anything. All I wanted was to be able to view the information online, no e-mail, no phone calls, no invasion of my privacy. What is this world coming to! Nobody respects t ...

Has Anyone Very Successfully Finished Their Coding Courses Only To.....
Dec 02, 2013

Feel that it's not really what you want to do?  I finished my coding course at Andrews and truly don't feel that's what I want to do.  I feel disappointment in myself because I invested that much time in school and did very well, but I feel it's not really the job for me.  I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this or anything similiar? Did you just stick with it until you found a job and did your feelings change?   I kept try ...

Any Students In Coding Courses Found Mistakes?
May 21, 2012

I am almost done with a course that was put together by the credentialing organization.  Now that I am almost done, I have gathered my notes on the course inconsistencies and incorrect answers to submit my comments to them so this doesn't happen to the next student.  I would like to hear the coders' and students' thoughts on this. Doesn't someone take the entire course and fix/correct BEFORE it is offered as a course?  ...

RMT Prep Courses
Feb 22, 2010

I have a question regarding the different prep courses offered for the RMT exam. There is one offered through OAK Horizons and one offered through Career Steps. I am wondering if anyone has used them and found them to be helpful at all or a complete waist of money. I really want to earn my RMT status, but I graduated from my mt course a little over a year ago and think that I could really use a refresher course. Any thoughts about these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! ...

Just Completed My MT Courses. Now What???
Apr 27, 2010

I just completed my Medical Transcription course through Penn Foster. When I first decided I wanted to become an MT it was the being able to work from home and being home with my young son that was my deciding factor. Now after completing the course and getting an idea of what all is involved, I'm a little insecure about it all. I did ok in my courses, but being just "ok" isn't gonna cut it in the real world where the reports are not just for testing purposes, but for REAL people. I do ...

How Many Hours A Week For Courses?
Dec 20, 2011

Hi.  I'm wondering for those of you who either attend/attended M-Tec or Andrews, about how many hours per week do you spend on the classes (total, including all studying)?  M-Tec's website says 25-30 hours.  Do you find this to be accurate?  I did not see an answer on the Andrews website.  I want to be sure before I commit that I have the necessary time to spend on the course.  While I'm willing to put 30 hours in, I do not want to find out that in re ...

Online MT Courses For Certification....

Reason For So Much
Oct 03, 2012

I have read countless articles today that state that the reason that so much MT work is being outsourced is b/c there are lack of MTs on the US side working in the industry.  I love when the uneducated write these articles.  They are totally missing the entire reason work is outsourced, MONEY.  There would be plenty US based MTs to do the work provided we were paid what we are worth.  The reason the work even went over to India and other countries is b/c it is cheaper for the ...

Another Reason Why Offshoring Is Bad For Everyone
