hmmm, just curious after reading this: "The codes, produced by the American Medical Association, are updated each year, usually with no problem, experts say. But this year, changes to a mere 30 codes that affect mental health services have thrown a huge glitch into the system."
-->Being that I do not qualify for a grant until after this month, I have not started school for coding yet. Is this a good time to learn coding, with all the changes in codes etc, and the ICD-10 coming out after I would be graduating; or, if possible, should I hold off a little longer until the new ICD-10 is out, and then begin school maybe in June?
Any advice on this issue?

[ In Reply To ..]This was taken out of context, so it is difficult to know what you are referring to. I am not currently coding, so others will know more than I do. The American Medical Assocation publishes CPT procedural codes, which are used in an outpatient setting. The World Health Organization publishes ICD-9/ICD-10 which are inpatient codes and something different. There are also DSM codes for mental health published by the American Psychiatric Association. I think this is a good time to learn coding as you will need ICD-9 as a foundation and can learn ICD-10 on the job, knowing the basics is what will be important. I am just opening the discussion; people with coding experience will know more.

There are many reasons, the least of which is that the US might never make the switch to ICD-10.
It simply makes no sense at all to wait. See if you can find the old posts. If you have questions after that, we'll be happy to answer them. (I'm just tired of repeating the same thing over again every month . . . )

Can anyone help me with making a jump code in Word 2010? I am so frustrated and can't find any info on what I need. I use shorthand and I need to be able to create a "macro" that will allow me to press Ctl +J to jump to the ??'s in my documents. For example, the patient is a ??-year-old ??male.
