Are you in school or actually working as an inpatient coder? If an inpatient coder, W is not assigned for exempt codes. Your system does not allow for an exempt E? for the exempt ones? It should.
W is assigned after the provider is queried and that provider states that he/she is unable to clinically determine whether the diagnosis was POA. It is usually not an exempt code that needs to be clarified in this way.
If a student, that would not be a good thing to have a student do either, even if it is just to skip the POAs for now.
Good morning all,
I am a long-time MT considering medical coding as a new career as I love the medical language profession and do not want to leave, however, keeping a long-time MT job that makes money I can live on is becoming almost nonexist.
By sheer luck, I met a manager of a small clinic that offered me a medical coding entry level job $16/hour with medical insurance paid for in full for a family. Only thing I have to do is pass the exam and become certified. She had to become ce ...
Tools of the trade: I check everything dictated, and I have a ICD-9 reference, however, no CPT reference. I am wondering if the information is available to us from MedQuist without cost someplace that i have not looked? At one time, it was freely available online. ...
hmmm, just curious after reading this: "The codes, produced by the American Medical Association, are updated each year, usually with no problem, experts say. But this year, changes to a mere 30 codes that affect mental health services have thrown a huge glitch into the system."
-->Being that I do not qualify for a grant until after this month, I have not started school for coding yet. Is this a good time to learn coding, with all the changes in codes etc, and the ICD-10 coming out after I ...

...but this was in my newspaper today and it cracked me up.
Commentators have had fun with the new system of medical diagnostic codes (denominated in from four to ten digits each) scheduled to take effect in October 2015, and the âHealthcare Diveâ blog had its laughs in a July post.
The codes for "problems in relationship with in-laws" and "bizarre personal appearance" are quixotic enough, but the most âabsurd" codes are "subsequent encounters" (that is, at least the second time ...
I work as an IC MT for a psych clinic. My director called, asking for coding information. He knows nothing about coding (neither do I) and it took me a while to catch on to what he wanted.
I believe he wants an ICD-9 code for the appropriate compensation of writing and reviewing reports? His office secretaries don't have any idea.
A code for somone like himself writing and reviewing at a master's level, then another code for the psychiatrist obviously at a higher l ...
Can anyone clariify a procedure code for me. What is the difference between
99.10 - infusion/injection of thrombolytic agent and
36.04 - intracoronary artery thrombolytic infusion
I have researched this all day and cannot find an answer. Does 36.04 which states direct injection mean open surgery (CABG)? I cannot find anything that tells me the difference. Thanks in advance. CathyCoder ...

Thanks so much!! ...
Hi again. So, I got the jump codes to work in my word documents by using ctl f9 but for whatever reason, it won't save on my template. Anyone have any suggestions on this issue? Also, how do I make a "macro" for numbering.... ??? ...
I'm fairly new to shorthand and not good at making macros either.
