The following is the summation of a message I just received from one of my professors, the HIT department chair, regarding upcoming coding exams. This is just an FYI for those of you scheduled or scheduling your exams.

Coding Certification Exams - Contact your test centers

If anyone is signed up for any of the coding certification exams, they have been delayed for about 30 days. Be sure to review the information below and contact your test center.

The coding exams have been delayed for 30 days, please see the timeline below:

• CCA will launch April 30, 2014

• CCS will launch May 7, 2014

• CCSP will launch May 14, 2014

All coding candidates have been contacted with the following message:

(Exam) Candidate:

As you may be aware this afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed a bill, H.R. 4302 – Protecting Access to Medicare,containing language that would delay the implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS for one year. This bill has now been referred to the US Senate for consideration and vote, followed by the President’s final decision.

As a result the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) has made the decision to delay the CCS-P ICD-10 exam date launch date from (Appropriate Dates) This means that the appointment that you have scheduled will be for the ICD-9 version of the CCA exam.

We would like to extend the following choices:

1. Take your exam as scheduled, which will be the ICD-9 version (please review the list of allowable code books for ICD-9)

2. Request a refund without any penalties

3. Cancel your appointment and rescheduled for a later date that will offer the ICD-10 version of the exam

To cancel your appointment with Pearson VUE please contact them at 888-524-4622.

I'm working on my MBA currently, but the dept chair sent out a message to the students because a lot are cross-training in various roles and some are preparing to sit for the exams. Just wanted to share the information as I got it for those who might need it. :)

NOTICE: Effective immediately, the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) is suspending administration of AHIMAâ��s Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) examination in all U.S. and Global Pearson Professional Centers. This action has been taken due to concerns over exam security and will continue until such time as the security and integrity of all AHIMA exams are ensured.

CCHIIM has sole and independent authority in all matters pertaining to the certification of Health Informatics and Information Management professionals.

At present, there is not sufficient evidence of irregularity to cast doubt upon the validity of individual scores on exams already taken. However, the CCHIIM reserves the right to invalidate the scores of candidates who may be implicated in any irregularity and, if necessary, to require all candidates to take an additional examination at a later date under conditions which will ensure the validity of all scores.

Further, if it determined that any individuals have been involved in a breach of exam security or any other exam-related irregular behavior, the CCHIIM will not hesitate to take appropriate action, which may include cancellation of exam scores, revocation of certification, permanent denial of future eligibility for certification, and legal action, as deemed appropriate by the CCHIIM.

As a result, your exam appointment will be cancelled, and a full refund will be processed in the same manner the original payment was made. Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing.

At this time we do not have a date when the CCS exam will be available. Updates will be provided on the Certification web page.

Recevied a message from OSI recruiter giving instructions to register for testing? Anyone know how long it took to receive the confirmation code once registering? Were you allowed to see your transcription exam after it had been graded, whether it was a pass or fail? I transcribing a dictation where "physical examination" was already dictated after the history of present illness and before the past medical history. Now she's dictated it again after the review of systems. Is it possible that the first one should have gone under the history of present illness heading? Also, in her review of systems, she numbers each heading...should I transcribe it as such or leave the numbers out? ...

I don't think I am surprising anyone with the observation that CHDS or CMT credentials don't help you get a job. I have applied at several companies and I don't even get a courtesy of a response--even from companies that say they "care if you are certified." The bottom line for the companies is to pay the lowest you can and quality doesn't matter. No surprise here. ...

I wondered if everyone has received their W2s by now? I left MModal several months ago when I realized staying for the benefits was not worth the stress and LOW pay, but have yet to receive my W2. I also did not receive my final PTO pay but it was less than 100 dollars so did not pursue it other than a few emails (and yes, I gave 2 weeks' notice and worked all of that). how do you know you've been paid that time by looking at your pay stub? And does it show up on your time sheets as an adjustment by your CCM? I was just wondering if anyone has received their paycheck from TTD yet? Today is August 20 and they were supposed to have been written and sent on August 10 according to contracts.
