mobile assistant - want me to update my operating system to Windows 8 - anon
Posted: Aug 09, 2013
Hi, I am being offered a job at Mobile Assistant, but they want me to update my operating system to Windows 8 and I cannot afford this, but if they are worth it, I might consider. Does anyone know anything about this company? are they worth it?
P.S. I am in desparate need of a job.
I dont know anything about the company but... - nn

This is the first time that I have heard of a company wanting Windows 8 as an operating system. Most of the ads state either XP, Vista or 7. So this is a new one for me.

I know, that is why I am reluctant to be hired. I was thinking if I did get a new PC, then what happens if things don't work out?

do the test they gave, but got completely frustrated because I could not use the foot pedal, only the mouse, and it was not medical transcription. Plus, they said they would pay 6 cents per line straight typing and 3 cents per line using a "template." I did not complete the testing. I won't work for those wages under any circumstance.
So unless you are in need of an upgraded computer, I certainly wouldn't waste my money since most medical transcription companies are not using Windows 8. On the other hand, if you want to be paid slave labor wages, you might be able to purchase something in the $200 to $300 range and still keep your old computer. Just sayin.

I wondered the same thing. I went into their testing site with IE8 installed but only upgraded to 9. Kind of odd that they say to cut and paste into a Word document, but it must be from the actual test itself. I wanted to be able to do a "save target as," and donwload the file and play it using my player. I guess no sucn luck then -- course for that rate of pay....

Windows 8 is geared more towards use with a tablet. You might want to ask them if you can use a tablet as that could be more cost effective. Microsoft has a tablet on sale for $299.00, you may also be able to find tablets that have been refurbished at a good price.

I just this week accepted a job from Mobile Assistant, and the offer email stated that the software requirements were an up-to-date computer running either Vista (requiring 2 gb RAM), Windows 7, or Windows 8 (both requiring 4 gb RAM) and Microsoft Office 2010 or 2013. Maybe double-check with the recruiter as to the requirements?

Mobile Transcription Sep 28, 2012Hello:
I have been given the opportunity to travel with my husband. I was wondering if there are other MT who travel with their spouses. What internet connections do you use?
We are looking into Mobile Hot spots, but I am afraid that with the large / high volume account I have, we will run into usage overages.
Please let me know what you all think.

Anyone Here Go From MT To Medical Assistant? Sep 26, 2013I'm looking at a program in my area that is 9 months long to become a certified medical assistant. I do realize that MAs don't get paid much (about 14 an hour where I live which sounds awesome to me right about now as I'm a poor MT), and there really isn't any advancement in this type of job. But, I do want to do something hands-on in the medical field and this seems like a good way to go. My local hospital is phasing out all the LPNs and replacing them with ...

Update On Update Three Reports A Day Aug 10, 2012Hi everyone
I just wanted to stop by really quick and let you all know that finally, FINALLY I am off QA. I was given two accounts today in addition to the one they had initially given me. I can now type w/o counting my reports and waiting for feedback first. It remains to be seen of course, whether or not there will be as much work as I was told but so far, this company has been true to their word. Still, four days on a very restrictive QA protocol was quite scary. I am a LOT grayer now ...
MT Transition To Physician Assistant Mar 05, 2011I am considering this. I am interested in biology and medicine, but do not want to be a nurse. The original plan is going for a masters in social work, but biology and medicine is holding my interest at this point, so wondering if I should switch majors.  ...

Mobile Assist Info Apr 20, 2013Was offered a job by this company but once they sent the email requesting all of my personal information, I felt uncomfortable sending my information to them. I know that is normal when you are hired for a position but the way they went about it, and the amount of information they required, copies of things, etc., plus wanting access to my computer immediately, but a work start date of more than a month away - made me just question sending my info to them, so I didn't. ...

Cancer Registrar Vs Medical Assistant? Sm Jun 01, 2013I'm considering getting out of transcription. I've been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I'm looking into either CRM or MA - CRM through AHIMA online or MA at local community college. I'm worried that CRM is too much of a "niche" job. There is a nearby cancer treatment center. However, I'm also worried that MA would not necessarily pay that much. I would appreciate any input/advice anyone cares to offer. ...
TTS Administrative Assistant Position-SALARY??? May 04, 2015Did you see the job posting for TTS Administrative Assistant. Now how in the world is that a salary position? Don't these people know the IRS is checking out all these misclassifications, just to avoid paying OT?
