WMX/Nuance timing in and out - sm

Posted: Oct 15, 2011

It takes a minute to sign in and out, but do you find it makes a big difference for you if you do so for bathroom breaks or running to get a drink?  Doesn't this cause your time to run over your assigned shift?  I must get up a dozen times a day to let dogs in or out, thinking I might be messing up my statistics like this.  Input?

Call me crazy but.... - anon

...you mean to tell me that you have to clock out to go to the bathroom, take your dog out, etc., for this company? What's next, a video camera on your computer so they know when you take your hands off the keyboard or perhaps take a sip of your coffee? IMO, this is crazy. So glad I only lasted about 2 weeks with Nuance or I'm quite sure I would have lost my mind. Again, this is just my opinion. Good luck to you. :)

No, I don't mean they make you or monitor you like Big Brother. Our statistics are figured so we maintain X number of lines per hour and if you are clocked in and not working for long periods it negatively effects you.

Then I guess the answer to your question is yes... - ...it negatively affects you.

[ In Reply To ..]
IMHO.
You're negativing yourself by keeping the clock on - while you do other stuff because
[ In Reply To ..]
your actual 8 hours spent racking up lines is not actually 8 hours. Nothing to do with the company, per se, nor does it put you in overtime to stick strictly to typing while on the clock.

That said, it's understood by everyone that an 8-hour shift will include minor breaks for potty, etc. Not phone chats or getting the roast in the oven, tho. Whether you want to take these off the clock or on is your own preference, but choosing one will increase your line count, the other not. Strictly your choice.
productivity, work ethics, and average hourly production rates - anon

Again, I pose the question. If this were an in-hospital job, or even a job doing literally anything else away from home (even stocking at Wal-Mart or flipping burgers at McD's), why would you even think of clocking out for a bathroom break, a personal call, or a momentary distraction? The point of being "at work" is to be working, and one's personal work ethic defines what that means, but the playing field rules call for an 8-hour shift with a defined lunch break. Potty breaks should never be withheld by an employer, but neither should the employee abuse them. Therefore, there shouldn't need to be any clocking in/out over minor interruptions that happen in an ordinary work day.

When I was working a hospital job, and the daily "quota" was 1000 lines per day, we didn't get to drop that quota to 875 lines if we ended up taking 5 potty breaks and getting a really long personal call - we were expected to produce 1000 lines in 8 hours. A computer crash would have created an exception because that would have been something we couldn't control, but a potty break would not.

Conversely, when we took vacation time from the in-hospital jobs, we got paid our normal hourly rate, not our "average production rate."

These jobs we do from home are real jobs, not something for our "convenience." We need to treat them like real jobs by showing a good work ethic, but also expect our employers to as well, by not accepting the idea that 8 hours of work means 8 hours of sweatshop typing, even if it takes 10 hours to clock that. Just say NO! to clocking out for potty breaks!!!

I have to get up a lot too, but I usually don't clock out just to go to the bathroom. If what I need to do takes longer than 5-10 minutes, then yes I do. It can negatively impact your hourly wage for PTO if you don't clock out when you know you'll be away for longer than just a few minutes. Even when we were low on work, my AM didn't bug me about going a little past my shift.

Not a WMX employee, but I still have opinions... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
If you worked in a hospital, you would clock in at (hypothetically) 7:00 a.m., and clock out at 11:30 a.m. for lunch, back in at noon when lunch was over, and back out for the day at 3:30 p.m. That would be 8 hours clocked time, and you would be paid by the hour.

So let's say you had to go to the bathroom at 10:30 a.m.? You would just get up from your desk and go. Let's say you received a personal call at 2:30 p.m., and the call lasted 15 minutes (not likely, but let's just say...). You would take the call, talk, hang up, and return to your report.

At the end of your 8 hours, that bathroom break and that phone call might have cost you 50 lines of productivity, but you would still have been paid 8 hours x your hourly rate.

Am I the only one on this board that sees the insanity of "clocking out" for a bathroom break or a long phone call?????

I agree, Anon. I am a bit confused, though. - Is the problem that SM

[ In Reply To ..]
you can't work past your scheduled shift? If I have to be away from my desk for a period of time, I just put my report on hold, otherwise it would look like I spent much more time in a job than I actually did, which on paper translates to how many lines I transcribed/edited in an hour. No one bothers me about this, though. Is this the problem? Are you told that you are not producing enough and, if so, according to what standard? It is crazy to me to even think of clocking out or whatever for bathroom break, getting a drink, etc. I feel like I must not understand how it works at this company.

not true... - Sue

I work for Nuance and they do not require you to clock out unless you are going to be away for longer than 15 minutes. They give you a 15 minute break that you do not clock out for and 1/2 hour for lunch, which you must clock out for. You do have the option of putting a report on pause if you are away, for instance, interrupted by work related IMs, etc. Nuance is not a sweat shop:)

I find clocking in and out working from home and being paid - shortcake

production NOT HOURLY is insane.

Hahaha! I agree, have always thought so, but there are laws - - minimum wage/labor board. nm

Coding Education Timing
Oct 20, 2010

I'm looking for some feedback/advice on pursuing medical coding education.  I'm 53 and will be retiring from my current government position in about 3 years - about the time the ICD-10 will be in full implementation. (On the side, I work part-time as a medical transcriptionist.) I was advised to hold off on taking a medical coding course for a couple of years due to the fact I would be learning from the current ICD-9 and then have to have retraining later in the ICD ...

One Good Thing About The Change In QA Reversal Timing...
Feb 09, 2015

At least now the QA % will be known before the week we are working. That way, we can better guess how much money we are capable of making that particular week, instead of working hard for a good line count and then having the rug pulled out from under you on Friday afternoon... Silver lining, anyone? ...

Wmx/nuance Paycut Meeting, listen To Tape Shut Up Or QUIT, Nuance Attitude?
Dec 12, 2011

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

Is Nuance And M-Modal Joint Services? Posting Here For Nuance AC, Got Email To Test For M-Modal.
May 01, 2012

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

WMX/Nuance Changes
Dec 06, 2011

If Webmedx does away with or changes their recently advertised "PRODUCTION BASED INCENTIVE" bonus and adopts the Nuance quality based bonus then this change may be considered by quite a few WMX employees as yet another cut in pay. I’m sure that there are quite a few MT’s currently at WMX that have a high QA average and are earning $300-$400 (some even more) in production incentive pay each pay period, which equates to $600-$800 per month. As an example, acco ...

Does Nuance Really Pay Everyone The Same Across The
Mar 17, 2012

Is this true? Because if so that means they dont take into consideration years of experience, opportunity for increase or nothing. Seems kind of hard to work for an obviously big and successful company that is only willing to pay their employees 0.41 cpl and thats it, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I mean they dont come off to be the type of company that "cant" afford to give increases in pay to their transcriptionist. I heard that if you work from 10pm to 6pm you can make 0.46 cpl, bet ...

Fed Up With Nuance

Do you think "and" and "the" are typos?  I think not!  You see, this is evidence that they are being totally unfair and proof that they do not want anyone to make incentive!  This is my opinion!  Anything to bring your score down!  Man this pisses me off!&n ...
