of being management. If you have a complaint, you are accused of being a troll or whatever the current word is. If you give an opinion, you are bashed, and if you give advise, you start a string of hateful posts.

I wish you all the best. I am leaving this profession and will never look back. I would rather work at Burger King than deal with the cattiness, the low pay and the stress. I am going to work in registration at a hospital and can't wait to start the next chapter of my life.

I am sorry you feel the way that you do. I've asked for advice on this board (both coding and MT forums) and found the majority of people to be quite supportive and helpful, and with very few exceptions I've entered into discussions in a civilized manner and found acceptance. I know that some of the discussions can head in directions I'd rather not go but I choose not to participate in those, and we all have that choice. It is too bad that just a few unhappy people can tend to make things miserable for others. However, my opinion is that the good in this forum outweighs the bad. I think people are probably catty at Burger King, you will probably also find it at your hospital job if you choose to look for it. I hope you come back for one last look and read my message, good luck to you in your new job.

And I do hope you drop by now and then to chat. Like Anonymous, as embarrassingly and shockingly low as discourse often gets here, I also feel the benefits of sharing helpful information and experiences definitely outweigh the negatives. This mud wallow IS the biggest gathering place for MTs in this country, after all, very likely on the planet. :)

This is what I was thinking too, that the OP is missing the positives on the board.

We can all choose to focus on the negative or let it fall off.

The nastiness the OP found on the board is, in part, because posters are anonymous and feel freer to say what they feel/want. In person at a hospital job or BK, you are more likely to SEE as well as hear the sniping.

Good for you. Hope you are happy. At our local hospital patient registration pays better than the hourly wages many of us are making now as MT/MEs.

I am not a regular on this board, but I visit from time to time. I have to agree with the OP. The board is HORRIBLY negative. Maybe some of you who are regulars on here just don't realize how the board comes off to new users/visitors. MT is only one of a billion fields with changes. Bottom line, if you are unhappy, you need to move on. If you are happy, you need to stay and help others. If the MT field dries up, we'll all be forced to do something else, but the constant complaining isn't productive. We need to have pride in our profession. I am totally for venting and complaniing sometimes, but the bashing and attacking posts and being sarcastic to newbies with questions is not needed. To the OP: I hope you love your new job. I have a question for you. Why let attitudes on a job board drive your decision to leave the field? I hope it was other things.

That is exactly why I left a hospital setting to work at home; the awful nastiness and backstabbing in the office was so horrible. I experienced a situation where I worked second shift with myself and 2 other women at night. One girl always came in late, took too much time off, could never sit in her seat to do her work, and then always came to my cubicle to talk and if I said I had to get my work done she would take it as an offense and go running to the supervisor and complain. One night I told her this and she paced the room outside the office constantly ranting and raving about getting offended. She called the supervisor at home and got me in trouble. She acted strange most of the time, and when I talked to the supervisor about it, she blamed me for agitating her!! It got so bad that no one tried to control the situation, so I said I can't work under these conditions. There was always some drama going on, and you really could not trust anyone because someone was always trying to get others in trouble. It was a horrible situation. So, I do understand why you went home to work.

Existing and potential clients will and DO read this site. When I was in a position to choose an MTSO for my transcription needs, I checked out this site and steered clear of any MTSO that had lots of negative, hateful comments. It just makes no sense to pee in your own bathwater and I don't like it when you pee in mine. Venting is one thing, but what we see here daily is quite another.

Why would you change careers because of a message board that no one is forcing you to visit? What on earth does this message board have to do with job satisfaction? You can do MT work and never have any interaction with other MTs. Vising this board is not associated with your work at all. Cranky people on MT Stars have nothing to do with my job satisfaction, I can tell you that right now. I feel the same way about this board and most others, which is why I only visit on occasion a few times a year. I like my job and am happy with where I am with it right now and the usual response to that is that I am lying, am being paid by the school I attended or am a recruiter. Nope, sorry, I just like my job. This post caught my eye as I visited the board to look up a specific company, but for the most part I visit this board about 4-5 times a year. I had a wonderful experience finding work as a new graduate a few years ago and came here to share it for the purpose of inspiration for other new graduates and was crucified by the people here. I was told I was lying and that I needed to wake up and realize what a horrible job I actually had. There are some vicious people here but leaving a job over negative people on a message board that you are not required by your employer to visit is simply absurd. Of course, I think this entire post is for the attention and quite honestly that is sad. I suppose I am giving the attention that is wanted by replying though. *sigh*

It sounds like you are making a very wise decision for yourself - Would not work for me but sounds right for you

You know how we supposedly don't get paid something or other about the headers being the mandatory headers on the left side of the document in DocQScribe? Now that they are putting already typed standards over there on the side do for the physical exam and review of systems do we not get paid for that? Just typed a report that I can honestly say is probably the most disgusting dictation I have ever done in 30 years. Dictator (ha ha - joke!) was chomping very loudly on chips, rustling bag and sucking and sloberring. Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. I've been at TTS for almost 3 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about TTS. I never have to guess what TTS expects from me, and I do my best to deliver that on a consistent basis. Communication flows freely and efficiently. My team leader and 2 shift leads are EXCELLENT managers in my opinion. Everything I invest in my job comes back to me and then some.
