What a joke! Sten-Tel pays 2-3 cents for VR and 5-6 for transcription? I have been doing this for 25 years and that is simply ridiculous!

I applied with them as well and was shocked to see those rates. I am trying to apply with Keystrokes, but having a very difficult time taking the test. I cannot get my foot pedal to work and the recruiter says that happens and good luck! I don't even know if it is worth my time, but I desperately need a secondary MT job. I am supposed to interview and test with ST; has anyone done that? Even for that amount of money, I need a job. I figure I can keep looking, but I have been saying that for over 2-1/2 years! Woe to the poor MT! :o( (insert a tear)

Keystrokes pay is not much better - anywhere from 7-8.5 depending on account. When I was offered work there 2 years ago, it was 9-9. The economy is in the crapper and rates are going down and down and down.

For the life of me, I cannot do the transcription that they sent to me, unless I want to sit and write it out by hand and then copy it. I loaded Express Scribe and have used it before, but cannot download the dictation onto it like they say in the instructions. I am so frustrated. I am only considering Sten-Tel, because there has been nothing else that has come through. 7 cpl sounds a lot better than 5-6 cpl, but right now I have nothing.

OMG!!! What a ripoff! You know these companies are getting, at least 0.14 cpl if not more. That is some greedy crap. I am learning what companies not to apply with. Love this MTStars board. This will save me a lot of heartache and headaches. Geeezzzz. Maybe I should forget this working at home "rip-off" part of transcription and put myself out there in a clinic or a hospital.

So there is job posted that pays 30 cents an audio minute. How generous! You figure depending on the dictator and difficulty of transcript 60 minutes of audio is equal to 3 hours of transcribing. Granted, most of the time it does not take that long, but just in case for good measure we'll say 3 hours for 60 audio minutes. Do the math! 30 cents a minute x 60 (1 hr)= 1800. So another words, if you divide 1800 by 3 you get your hourly rate = 6 buck ...

I find it interesting that this posted at all, as when I was there starting part-time to consider full-time, supposedly my acct was "terminated" without notice. Now they suddenly have work? I don't know....kind of puts the gut on alert IMO. Just my 2 cents. ...

and 3 cents for VR? Unbelievable! That equates to about 5 cents and 2 cents per line respectively after taxes, and they require a second or third shift schedule. Are they serious? I guess some MTs are content to work for little more than minimum wage. Too bad! ...

Hey, I thought the moderator "unposted" the jobs that were posted here if they paid less than 4 cents a line. I wonder whatever happened to that? It seems like I read that somewhere, anyhow. At 3 cents a line, TTD is beginning to bump up against the states' minimum wages. The only way that I see that they will be able to get around that is by saying they will hire independent contractors only, and I don't think we are all so stupid as to take 3 ...

Stay away, Stay away, Stay away!!! I was hired as hourly QA full-time. After quitting my job I was told I had to train as an MT for a week or so, only doing 10 jobs a day. Sometimes I could not get even that many! Over a month went by and still was not trained as QA with the statement my quality was not good for stuff like an extra space, missing comma, etc, then my pay was reduced by 72 cents an hour! Their email just informed me of their awesome pay - 5 to 6 cpl for straight transcription and 2 to 3 cpl for editing. Oh, and this is working as an IC during the night shift. This is shameful. You should be ashamed of yourselves, Sten-Tel! If you actually make 2 cpl doing VR, you would have to edit 400 lines in an hour just to make 8 bucks an hour. Does anyone actually work for you? ...

Hi All, I just wanted to give everybody a word of warning about Sten-Tel of Massachusetts. You should avoid them if possible. I'm a recent grad from Med-Line School, and I got a fairly encouraging phone call from Sten Tel in Mass. However, almost immediately after that came a call from a Nuance recruiter. He was pretty hardcore, to the point of being off-putting, so I agreed to the testing portion. I know beginners can't be choosers, but Nuance seems pretty intense for a newbie.
