Sten-Tel -Work available consistently? - Kae917

I am considering taking a position with Sten-Tel (based in Massachusetts). I want to work full time, but I am wondering if anyone knows if there is consistent work available? Are there days when you aren't able to get any work? Any feedback would be helpful!

I worked there extremely briefly for PT work a while back. Work was almost nonexistent as was feedback and communication. Based on my experience with them alone, I don't see how anyone could make a living working for them. I sought another PT position to supplement my FT job and am very happy now. I would suggest seeking employment elsewhere, but that is just my opinion. Perhaps others will come on board to comment as well.

I work for them now. Some weeks I will have 2-3 days with no work at all. I hear they are looking for a bunch of MTs, but I can't figure out why since there is no work and, despite my asking for more work, I was told they didn't have any.

There is very little contact with anyone, when you have a question it can take forever to get an answer.

Also, the tech help with Sten-Tel is atrocious. Two months into the job and suddenly one day I couldn't upload files, and they refused to help. I'm looking for a 2nd job, needless to say.

and told they wanted me full-time, so I quit my job, but they never had any work for me. I was screwed. I had to rush to find another job just to get any money coming in.

Moral of my story: Don't quit your other job if you decide to try them out.

That's inexcusable. We're not talking slow periods here and there. We're talking no work & running out all the time.

Wow, sounds like they have really poor communication, leaving MTs kind of out to dry like that. You would think there would be some correspondence about no work instead of letting an MT waste his/her time.

Guess my friend's situation isn't unique.

I know you mentioned in Massachusetts, but there are several. Any company that uses the Sten-Tel platform has to put Sten-Tel in their company name.

I was checking them out, too. Is anyone being paid hourly? If so, do you continue to be paid if there is no work??

I don't think any Sten-Tel company pays hourly, it's all on production - nm

I never heard of anyone being paid hourly. Basically, there was no work at all with no offer of being put on another account that had work. There was very little communication if any at all. I worked for the Sten-Tel out of Massachusetts on the ASP platform. I have no earthly idea why they hire all the time when they do not have hardly any work to go around to the MTs already working for them. It is a very poorly managed company in my opinion.

Sorry I forgot I had posted this question. (I guess I figured I'd be notified by email if there were replies). I'm talking about Catuogno Court Reporting and Sten-Tel, if that helps...they list all those locations so I am honestly not sure which one.

I was hired by Sten-Tel on the Forum account. I have only worked about 6 days since the start of July. Have been told that Forum is having problems with ChartScript platform. I have been off the account more than I have been on.

Stay away, Stay away, Stay away!!! I was hired as hourly QA full-time. After quitting my job I was told I had to train as an MT for a week or so, only doing 10 jobs a day. Sometimes I could not get even that many! Over a month went by and still was not trained as QA with the statement my quality was not good for stuff like an extra space, missing comma, etc, then my pay was reduced by 72 cents an hour! I have been in this business over 20 years and never had a quality problem anyway, besides if I was so bad, how could I pass their test??? To anyone thinking of going to this company, I implore you DO NOT quit your old job until you know thingst are okay here. Not trying to flame, just trying to warn fellow MT/QAs from getting burned.

have been noticing over the last 3 or 4 weeks that the sytem is not consistently putting 2 spaces after periods. Used to not have to worry about this, but just one more thing to have to watch. Their email just informed me of their awesome pay - 5 to 6 cpl for straight transcription and 2 to 3 cpl for editing. Oh, and this is working as an IC during the night shift. This is shameful. You should be ashamed of yourselves, Sten-Tel! If you actually make 2 cpl doing VR, you would have to edit 400 lines in an hour just to make 8 bucks an hour. Does anyone actually work for you? ...

Hi All, I just wanted to give everybody a word of warning about Sten-Tel of Massachusetts. You should avoid them if possible. I'm a recent grad from Med-Line School, and I got a fairly encouraging phone call from Sten Tel in Mass. However, almost immediately after that came a call from a Nuance recruiter. He was pretty hardcore, to the point of being off-putting, so I agreed to the testing portion. I know beginners can't be choosers, but Nuance seems pretty intense for a newbie.
