Nuance or Sten Tel - purefoysgirl

I'm a recent grad from Med-Line School, and I got a fairly encouraging phone call from Sten Tel in Mass. However, almost immediately after that came a call from a Nuance recruiter. He was pretty hardcore, to the point of being off-putting, so I agreed to the testing portion. I know beginners can't be choosers, but Nuance seems pretty intense for a newbie. Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject? I'm looking for experience, not cpl, so I'm not considering the pay in this. Thoughts?

Nuance has many difficult accounts with lots of ESL dictators and just plain bad English speakers. I would not bite this off just yet -- get at least a year or more experience. When you are ready and you do care about the money the new pay plan can be rewarding and beat most other companies if you apply yourself

they can no longer attract or retain any experienced or seasoned MLS due to the pay structure. If pay is not an issue, you would certainly get your experience, but they are not going to hold your hand. You'll basically be thrown to the wolves and either sink or float. Since the announcement of their new pay structure a few weeks back, many have left or in the process of leaving so their only alternative now is to prey on the newbies. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Keep in mind that you will be an employee, and as such, you will have to transcribe enough lines to qualify for minimum wage in her state, based on the hours you are clocked in. Loosely, that equates to 100 lines per hour with at least 99.2% accuracy. They will be sympathetic for a while, but eventually will get on your case for not making minimum wage because they will have to pay you Make Up Pay everyday to get you to minimum wage.

It would, however, be good for the experience. If you can make it at Nuance, you can make it anywhere.

I graduated from MTEC not too long ago and started at Nuance, and although initially had a lot of MUP, they gave me a chance, and now I have no MUP, and it was never that hard to me to do the work, although you can't really make much money beyond minimum wage, but I think probably all companies pay that much nowadays for this field of work. In summary, Nuance isn't hard to work for in terms of the dictations, in my opinion. However, expect to be paid slop and prepare to go into another field ASAP, since I'm sure you don't want to make minimum wage forever.

Go with Sten-Tel to get experience. Nuance leaves most unhappy. I worked at Sten-Tel for 4 years when I first started. Yes, the pay is not good, but they are decent to work for, and you will learn a lot. Pay is timely. Account managers are pretty good. I always had multiple accounts and plenty of work. I now have a dream position, and I wouldn't know near what I do were it not for my time at Sten-Tel and their willingness to work with a new person. Good luck.

Stay away, Stay away, Stay away!!! I was hired as hourly QA full-time. After quitting my job I was told I had to train as an MT for a week or so, only doing 10 jobs a day. Sometimes I could not get even that many! Over a month went by and still was not trained as QA with the statement my quality was not good for stuff like an extra space, missing comma, etc, then my pay was reduced by 72 cents an hour! Their email just informed me of their awesome pay - 5 to 6 cpl for straight transcription and 2 to 3 cpl for editing. Oh, and this is working as an IC during the night shift. This is shameful. You should be ashamed of yourselves, Sten-Tel! If you actually make 2 cpl doing VR, you would have to edit 400 lines in an hour just to make 8 bucks an hour. Does anyone actually work for you? ...

Hi All, I just wanted to give everybody a word of warning about Sten-Tel of Massachusetts. You should avoid them if possible. According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...
