Specific questions about TransTech...please help if you can SM - Chickadee

Posted: Nov 04, 2011

Full time is considered 40 hours/5500 lines per week, right?

Is it a mix of straight typing and VR?

Are there a lot of ESL...or about average?

How much per pay period does the single healthcare premium cost?  Are the benefits good?

Is there PTO, 401K, etc?  Are they very strict about your schedule...or could one work 2 hours outside their schedule either way (and still do 8 hours)?

Do they provide the computer/equipment?  Do you have to pay to lease their equipment?

Anything else you'd like to share about TransTech?

Thank you for your time,

Chickadee

Lines are 15,000 per pay period (7500 per week.
The 2 accounts I was on was a mixture, about 90% VR, ESLs depends on the accounts.
PTO is only given if you make you lineage of 15,000.
Computer is your choice depending on if your computer will take the platform that your accounts are on. If you use TT computer, you do pay.
As far as work goes and 8 hours, when I first started for a month I had lots of work, never ran out, then it seemed I was always out of work. I now moved on 2 weeks ago.
Cant tell you about the insurance cause I didnt have it.
Nice people, left me alone to work, when I had work.

Thank you! I appreciate your time...good luck! NM - Chickadee

Correction about computer rental - TT MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I was given my computer free of charge, and I was never told that I would ever have to pay for it. The VR is usually over 90%. Part-time is 7500 lines per pay period. I had to drop down to part time because I was not able to make 15,000 lines per pay period due to the amount of VR I had to do. They generally do leave you alone, for the most part. They are nice people, but the best way to get the information about this company is to do research on this site and put in Transcend, and a bunch of info will come up.

Yes, the minimum I believe is 5500 per week. Provided you can actually get 5500 lines per week even if you have 3 or more accounts.

They're VR pay is low. If you succeeded in hitting that magic number, that's equal to:

5500 x 4.5 = $247.50 per week. GROSS.

247.50 x 2 = 1072.42 per month. GROSS.

Those are before pulling out taxes, benefits if you choose to take them, etc.

I'm horrid at math, but just deducting 10% for insurance means you'll be whopping in about $950 a month, give or take.

Some people can live on that, some cannot.

I just wanted you to look at the hard figures before making any decision so crucial to their lifestyle.

And, bear in mind, those figures are based on *IF* you can manage to get 5500 per week what with everyone fighting for work. Only count on 5% or less being straight transcription; 95% of that mess is VR at 4.5 cpl.

HEY TT, THIS IS ONLY MY EXPERIENCE, ONLY MY OPINION, YADA YADA YADA (they're also notoriously litigious, hence we all need to put that disclaimer on our posts lest they decide to call 1-800-SHYSTER and threaten to sue us for defamation).

TT - Ex-TT 2

[ In Reply To ..]
Great post ex-TT. You covered most everything. They EXPECT you to work your shift. They EXPECT you to make your line count and if you do not, or if work comes in later in the day, they EXPECT you to jump on and type after getting cartoons in emails that basically threaten you because you haven't made line count....because there wasn't work during your shift that you were expected to be working...and so it goes and goes and goes. The math is correct.
yadayadayada This is just my opinion.

AND they will even call you at home if reports start to come in - LONG after your shift is over

[ In Reply To ..]
Seriously, if work starts trickling in clearly out of the range of your shift when you've finally given up and decided to rest your backside on something besides the computer chair, one of the leads will call you at home and practically beg you to "help out." I even tried different shifts towards the end and, nope, no work during the first 2-3 hours of one of the shifts.

It was insanity. I'm so glad I escaped and found a decent, 8-hour a day job, straight transcription, decent pay and no need to falsify my timesheet. Glory hallelujah!!!

**DISCLAIMER - JUST MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND MY PERSONAL OPINION**

(heavens to mergatroid, how ridiculous to feel compelled to put that on every post because they WILL sue their MTs who post anything negative about them---Pay heed, chickadee, pay heed).

Math can't be correct when it's 7500 minimum, not 5500. - Aunt Sooz

I think OP gets the gist of how to calculate it herself now - She just has to change to 7500 instead of 5500
[ In Reply To ..]
Pretty sure she was bright enough to redo the math based on the lengthy discussion about the new minimum ;-)

I used the weekly figure of 247.50 per week and multiplied it by 4.333; a boss of mine many years ago said there are exactly 4.333 weeks in a month, so I always use that as my esimator.

And, again, bear in mind, like the other poster, I too had to bail because I could not, even sitting at my computer 12-18 hours a day, 6-7 days a week between 3 accounts just trying to meet their minimum. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I actually was developing a decubitus ulcer from sitting in one position so long and had to start using a donut for about 4 weeks until it mercifully healed. My schedule involved a weekend day and between one weekday and one weekend day when there was literally no work, I was a full-time employee working part-time hours.

Another thing to keep in mind. You will be completely without any compensation for the countless hours you sit in front of your computer waiting for work; in my case, a minimum of 16 hours per week with no incomine whatsoever. When I attempted to turn in an accurate timecard reflecting my low line count and documenting days with no work, well, let's just say I heard from one of "THE" higher-ups immediately, coaxing me to search my memory because surely I had to have taken time off and just forgotten, otherwise I didn't even make minimum wage that pay period and TT would have to pay me the difference. The horrors of timesheet honesty!

It actually reached a point where I was essentially working just for benefits...and at the rate the work was drying up, the benefits were destined to fly out the window, too.

***DISCLAIMER: BUT HEY, TT, THIS IS ONLY MY EXPERIENCE AND ONLY OPINION SO NO NEED TO CALL 1-800-IMGONNASUEU!!!***

That must be like pulling a rabbit out of a hat - ExTT

[ In Reply To ..]
Scrounging up enough work to get 5500 lines per week was a daunting tasks. I can't imagine them upping that to 7500.

On the other hand, since there's still apparently no work, it must be a windfall for TT in that they'll be able to drop a lot of MT's benefits.

SOOOOOOOO glad I'm out of there and have a life again.

Maybe, maybe not...Theyre always lawyered up and ready to go - And we are compliant parties to avoid being fired
[ In Reply To ..]
**MY OPINION, MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, TRANSTECH!**

They force us to be compliant, as in my example above. Because we've turned it in as our "valid" timesheet, I don't think there's much even DOL could do.

I still remember sitting there for a 10- to 12-hour stretch, waiting for work and finally giving up...only to find an email a couple of hours later with a cartoon attached informing that, boy oh boy, there's work now if you want to hop on and help out! And knowing the way one of the team leads panicks, that probably meant there were anywhere from 5 to 15 reports, with about 20 MTs scrambling to try to get to them.

I'll say one thing. TT clients must have 0 TAT, with the work load being so low and so much overhiring. Their clients must think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
It has been 7500 a week since I came on board a year ago - Another TTMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know how long ago you left TT, but when I was hired a little over a year ago it was 7500 lines per week for full time and 3750 lines per week for part-time.
If you get 7000 one week and 8000 the next, do you get penalized in any way? - Wondering
[ In Reply To ..]
Do they cut your benefits in that case?
I honestly dont know but I doubt it - Probably based on 15,000 per PP
[ In Reply To ..]
Although I can't say for sure. As long as the total at the end of the PP is 15,000+, I wouldn't think they'd cut the benefits...but who knows? Illogical things happen every day in the world of MT.

**JUST MY OPINION**

I also agree - Another TTMT

My take home pay for 2 weeks, after taxes, is approximately $400, and I struggle for that! Thanks for the info, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was disagreeing:)

To be honest - ExTT

[ In Reply To ..]
I was still there a year ago (just left a couple of months ago), and I actually do think they upped the quota before I left; however, if I recall correctly, work was pretty plentiful at that time so I didn't give the increase a lot of thought.

Also, yes, that's about what my check was about every 2 weeks after having taxes and benefits taken out. OUCH. And that was putting in 80 hours on my timesheet but in actuality it was more like 120 hours per pay period struggling to get whatever lines I could.

As soon as I sensed the work was so slow I was going to inevitably lose my benefits anyway, I left. My nerves were so shot that not only was I developing a decubitus ulcer, but I also was breaking out in an odd almost eczematous-type rash on my face and had little appetite left whatsoever the last few months there.

I really did like the people at TT and one of my AMs, and that made it even harder to finally face facts and leave with the shred of sanity I had left.

When on a Sunday morning at 9 a.m. a company to which I had sent my resume a year before called me to offer me a job, I knew that was the sign I'd been waiting for and it was time to go.

It was like the mothership had come to rescue me from the topsy-turvey world of TT, LOL!

Best luck to all of those still there struggling and bless your hearts for your devotion to that company. I really do hope things turn around for you, sooner than than later.

I have always had plenty of work on second shift. Been there 3 years. Unhappy about VR causing me a pay cut, but I am concerned about getting the same if I go elsewhere.
