On the Mark Transcription - Info on them

I received an answer from this company and have a chance to work for them. Thing is he says regarding pay, the transcriptionists get paid when he does. He bills the hospital and when they pay he pays. He says sometimes it takes 2 months to get paid.

Does anyone have any other info on this company? Is he reliable?

That's nonsense. What if he never gets paid? Then you don't either? How convenient. I personally don't believe a reputable business person would expect that, ever.

The fact that he makes this disclaimer right up front is a red flag. I would say it is a very real possibility that you would get paid whenever he darn well feels like paying you, if at all.

one of the MTSOs that I work for pays that way. One of the accounts only pays them once a month, in the middle of the month, for the entire prior month's work. So I get that money once a month. Another account only pays the MTSO every two weeks, but they are about 60 days behind, so the checks I'm getting now every two weeks for that account are from work that I did in October. I wish it wasn't that way and it wasn't always, but that's how it is. I ALWAYS do get my money though, x10 years. Just thought I would share to let you know that there are other companies that do it that way. Hopefully you'll hear from someone that actually works there and knows whether he pays on a regular basis.

My general feeling is that different people have different experiences with a company, and I try not to comment on those companies I don't have personal experiece with; however, I will tell you what I know about this company only because many, many graduates from my school have gone on to work for this company. The pay is ridiculously low. The pay is sporadic. He will pay you, but you may get paid 2 months later. It seems that people enjoy the work and that the owner is very nice, but it seems a job for someone who doesn't really need much income and is just looking for experience. Good luck. Becky

"Nice" is nice, but it doesn't pay the mortage. Don't MT's ask for contracts anymore? I would not work without one, and it must specify terms and times of payment.

I totally agree that this method of pay/line rate is unacceptable. I would never work for this company, personally, just sharing what I heard about it with the OP. I think the pay is like 2 cents for VR and 4 cents for straight. I would starve!

Totally unacceptable payment method. MTs can't - afford late or sporadic payments! n/m

Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. Now all that's left are transcription companies here in the U.S. that don't want to pay much more, lie to us and tamper with our line counts. GET OUT, GET OUT OF TRANSCRIPTION! ...

It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand.
