On The Road Satellite Connection? - itching to escape
Posted: May 27, 2015
Does anybody know if there are any companies that let you work from satellite or is that illegal now due to HIPAA? Years ago I looked into this and there was a tiny list of companies but it was dwindling so don't know now.
Might be taking off in an RV and was wondering if anybody works that way with a satellite dish attached or some other method?
Somebody that works like this wrote to me a long time ago and told me she has some little gadget she plugs into her computer and it provides access? Don't remember but I don't think that was satellite but that sure sounds easier. I sure wish I could remember what it was she used.
Anybody working like this? If you are I sure envy you.
Looking into this as well - marge

I need something like this as well. There are things called "jet packs" that work on a wireless system like the smartphones. You can get them through Verizon, Sprint, etc. Some of them are pay as you go so you don't have to sign a contract and pay for it every month.

or Goggle, and search for Verizon Pantech UML290 modem. Other carriers (AT&T, Sprint, etc.) have their own models as well. Jetpack is considered wireless, and some companies do not allow wireless. The Pantech modem is not wireless, it just plugs into a USB port.
If deemed an acceptable connection method, the Verizon Jetpack Ellipsis (sm) - Zippity

is a pretty nice little hotspot, so small you can put it in your pocket. I bought one at Walmart for around $50. It's a prepaid service hotspot, and you can get a $60 card that will provide 3 gb of data, or, if purchasing data online, they offer 10 gb for $90. The speed is quite good, in my opinion. I have had to use it on occasion emergently and didn't notice any real difference in report download/upload speed. I live where I receive a strong signal, though.
As far as hotspots go, avoid the Straight Talk 4g LTE mobile hotspot at all costs. At least avoid the one that uses AT&T towers. I've heard the one using Verizon towers is somewhat better. More times than not, pages would time out before ever getting to load. A total waste of money.

I live in an area where I cannot get cable, satellite stinks.
I ended up getting a "little gadget" from Verizon called Verizon Wireless Novatel 551L 4g USB Mobile Broadband Modem.
I have 10 gigs for $90 per month. You just plug it into your USB port. It's been a lifesaver. I had to go out of state and brought my desktop with me and it worked out of state also.
I just love it. The speed is pretty good also.

This May Be The End Of The Road Aug 04, 2011Usually, when we get a new CEO, they at least pretend that we are "valued employees." This guy makes no such pretense, says our quality is the same as India's and that they will be sending more and more to India. I know someone said before the goal was to send the vast majority of work to India by the end of 2011. I'm old and tired, live in the boondocks where there aren't a lot of jobs. Have some feelers out, but nothing so far. So depressing. ...

My Road To Code... Feb 25, 2011Hi coders, I'm an MT with many years of experience and am trying to break into coding and billing. I am starting with an on line course to get the basics and overview of the process. When I am done with that I will take a class at my community college to refresh and hopefully network. Does this sound like a good plan to anyone? Anything to recommend to be supplementing so I will do well on whatever certification tests are necessary when the time comes? Thanks! ...
MTing In An RV On The Road Mar 18, 2011I'm interested in chatting with anyone who might be doing MT work on the road in an RV or motorhome. This might be in my future soon and I am curious about the logistics of this. I've been working at home for 19 years so would love to keep this great job while seeing some sights in the USA and still working.
Please get in touch if you have any information!
Thanks

Connection Between Companies/MT Schools? Feb 07, 2010Have to admit I'm pretty shocked by several of the posts on this forum, especially concerning how the companies are operating. New to the MT world here, and guess I'm green. Hadn't heard much at the school I attended except this forum was "too negative." I now see there's a legit reason for negative posts about companies if these posters are being honest, and I have no reason to believe they're not.
Just wondering how tight a connection the MT schools ...

American Health Connection Review Apr 03, 2013American Health Connection has posted for staff/agent jobs on MTDaily and MT Stars. They are very pleasant people with whom to work for sure. The trend these days is to outsource hospital patient registration and companies such as this are taking off big time. American Health Connection - Be Aware Feb 09, 2015I was hired by American Health Connection as a patient scheduler. I was sent an offer letter which I signed and then an email came with several forms to complete. Once had to be notarized, so I mailed everything back priority rate. Then, another email came with more attachments. Within those attachments, was a training reimbursement agreement that I was required to sign that said that if I quit the job prior to 6 months on the job I would have to pay $2,500 to the company.
