This May Be the End of the Road - Here is Why

Posted: Aug 04, 2011

Usually, when we get a new CEO, they at least pretend that we are "valued employees."  This guy makes no such pretense, says our quality is the same as India's and that they will be sending more and more to India. I know someone said before the goal was to send the vast majority of work to India by the end of 2011. I'm old and tired, live in the boondocks where there aren't a lot of jobs. Have some feelers out, but nothing so far.  So depressing.

end of road? - MT

When he said more work would be going to India, maybe he said that because they believe US transcriptionists are older and thinking about retirement.

I hope they don't plan on getting rid of US transcriptionists who want to keep working!

May I please remind you of Mr. Davenport's goal? - mtmqemp

May I please quote, " ...expect to continue to see the trend increasing with offshore over onshore. What clients want today is the most cost-effective solution they can get, the highest quality they can get, and we present that solution to them. They have the option. We certainly are in a global marketplace." Cost-effective solution is number one in place because the savings will NOT, repeat NOT be passed onto the client, nor the patient, and we US-MTs are quickly having our production rates cut over and over again. The money, the "cost-effective solution" where do you suppose that is going? I have worked for MedQuist for going only on 6 years, but this is a disgrace to all of us Americans and in particular to all of us who work so hard at being the "very best of the best" at what we do. How much more do we give? Where is the line drawn? Do we just step over it and continue to be abused?

On MQ Central they have had a survey re professional goals. They have best MT and most improved MT contests, and I think they are still hiring here, so it seems like they are not thinking of getting rid of us (I hope).

In order to be competitive in a global workforce, we have to accept less money. This will probably also happen to other US jobs. Maybe the whole US economy will go down closer to India. It seems like that's where we're headed.

falling victim to their "it is a global marketplace" crap. Other companies that lower their wages lower them to match what MedQuist pays! Don't let anybody kid you. You must either be young or pretty foolish to believe all of their propaganda. I may be older, but I am nowhere near retirement age.

Nowhere in any book of economics can I find where it is better to decrease the wages of your workers and ofshore work to improve the economy in another country. It may be cheaper for the "labor pool", but ultimately it is damaging to your own company's economic future.

Think about it this way: 1. You own a big company like the Q. Your company depends on the business of doctors and hospitals because you are a provider of medical transcription and coding services.
2) You begin outssourcing some of the work to another country, say, India. You reduce wages paid to your employees all across the United States because it's cheaper. These workers in turn have no money for doctor's office visits or hospital care, or their families.
3) The doctors and hospitals have fewer patients. The doctors and hospitals do not have any work to send you. You lose that account.
4) Whose foot have you stepped on???? YOUR OWN!

It may take awhile, but I hope that MedQuist gets what they have coming to them.

I refuse to let this industry beat me down. I refuse to let this company treat me with such disrespect. I am job hunting now and will never again accept a job that can be offshored. I am worth more than this and so are all of you.

I know I sound like I'm really being a pain here, and I'm really not wanting to burst your bubble, but that survey has been on that site for the greater part of 2 years, to what end? The newly implemented most improved MT and best MT has been going on for one month and will fade away more than likely in about 3-4 months if it lasts that long. Over the years, MQ has put in place so many "inspirational" programs, so many "reward systems" only to have to pay out on these and then close them down. Every once in a while, they will do something that actually pans out, although lately everything has spiraled downwards into minimum payout. How many of you have actually gotten a raise and have been able to keep it?? How many of you have been promoted to positions that have disappeared 3-6 months later, with either a demotion or a lateral move only available?
They perpetually have an ad for more MTs because you see if we "old-timers" who are making more money than the "newcomers" are frustrated enough to quit, they have in place cheaper hired help. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that there are "old-timers" on here who could tell me a few things about their experiences, since I've only been with MQ 5.5 years. Why do I stay? I can tell you... but another time. Thanks for listening to my rants my dear coworkers.
I got a raise a year ago, just asked for it - MT

right after the 3rd 99% audit in a row. I hear about MQ never giving raises, but I wonder if it is because people are just expecting it to happen without asking for it. I had not had a raise in over 6 years, but had not asked for one. When I asked for one, I got it. I was at mid-range of Tier 3 at the time. Maybe it has to do with your CCM, I don't know. I have a very good CCM and a good QA lead person.
I didn't. Here since 2004 and always passed my audits.... - minimumwageworker

Asked for and got a wopping 3% raise, the max I heard. Then lost it when they changed the pay ceilings.

I'm really gonna miss that $10......
No raise in 7 years. Asked for one. Told I was - maxed out at the top.

True or not I don't know, but I got nothing except the 0.001 or whatever raise last year that they took back 2 or 3 weeks ago.
At 8-9 cpl (or whatever), how can they or anyone in - their right mind say this is the "top"?
[ In Reply To ..]
The "top" of WHAT? Being used, abused, and then thrown away?
8-9 not the top for tier 3 - MT

I think we got an email recently or maybe I saw it on MQCentral that had 10-11 as top for tier 3 after the recent change. I went from 8 to 9 last year and was not affected by the recent pay scale change. I think it depends on your CCM whether a request is submitted or not when you ask for a raise.

My Road To Code...
Feb 25, 2011

Hi coders,  I'm an MT with many years of experience and am trying to break into coding and billing.  I am starting with an on line course to get the basics and overview of the process. When I am done with that I will take a class at my community college to refresh and hopefully network.  Does this sound like a good plan to anyone?  Anything to recommend to be supplementing so I will do well on whatever certification tests are necessary when the time comes?  Thanks! ...

MTing In An RV On The Road
Mar 18, 2011

I'm interested in chatting with anyone who might be doing MT work on the road in an RV or motorhome.  This might be in my future soon and I am curious about the logistics of this.  I've been working at home for 19 years so would love to keep this great job while seeing some sights in the USA and still working. Please get in touch if you have any information! Thanks   ...

Taking The High Road
Oct 01, 2014

Just gave my 2 weeks without giving a justification.  Upon reciept, I was asked why.  I decided I'd give my why on the high road, but man was it tempting to just let it all fly in a manner be fitting a swarm of angry bees.  Here's my response. In the years I've been with the company, the corporate culture has changed dramatically.  I feel as though M*Modal is no longer a good match for where I am currently nor where I'm going in the future.  I value ...

On The Road Satellite Connection?
May 27, 2015

Does anybody know if there are any companies that let you work from satellite or is that illegal now due to HIPAA? Years ago I looked into this and there was a tiny list of companies but it was dwindling so don't know now. Might be taking off in an RV and was wondering if anybody works that way with a satellite dish attached or some other method? Somebody that works like this wrote to me a long time ago and told me she has some little gadget she plugs into her computer and it provide ...
