OSI pay scale - sm - Susan

Can anyone give me a GENERAL idea of what OSI might start you out at per line? I have a lot of experience but I know that doesn't matter much anymore. I am not going through testing to find out the pay is 7-8 cents per line.

Worked there less than a year ago at 8. Go figure. Guess it depends on the account. I have 10 years' exp.

i think it depends on a lot of things...your experience, how well you do on their exam, if your current in-house hospital job is being outsourced to them, how badly they want you to work for them, etc.

can't hurt to just take the test and find out how good THEY think you are, LOL.

I was making 0.875 with 22 years experience. OSi has some of the nicest CCMs, but that's about all I can say. My accounts were horrendous and I never complain having been with Medquist prior to OSi. The pay was probably the worst I have ever encountered and honestly every time I tried to figure out my pay, it was never what my check was, lol. I don't know how they calculate, but my pay was always way lower than I calculated it to be. Also, their insurance rates(at least for family) are ridiculous and the coverage is horrible.

Needless to say I left them 2 months ago for my new inhouse job now (which I LOVE) after being home for 17 years. You know what...I don't miss it. My kids are teens now, I no longer have a line count, work 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. M-F, I have my weekends and all holidays off and I make an hourly wage and know what my pay is going to be (and get yearly raises!!!). I can't do production anymore nor do I want to. I have no regrets, but I will never go back to that kind of work again...ever. Good luck in your decision.

I had a cushy in-house hospital job and it turned out to be very poor work environment, walked away from $23/hour. Disrespect is not worth selling out for. Anytime an in-house job can be gone and there you are, faced with working from home again. ;) JMHO

LOL, yeah should never say never, but I can say I'd probably take a job at McDonald's before going back to this again. Also, I am back in the hospital, but I'm a secretary now, not a transcriptionist. I do transcription, just not all day. I love the variety and the day goes fast. Everyone is great here and I have my own office, so I don't really see my coworkers a lot, although I wouldn't mind if I did. I work for a large university teaching hospital who also are also the docs for the NFL team here. I plan on retiring from here...in 22 years, lol!

Sounds good. A friend of mine went from transcribing to working as a secretary and she really likes it wouldn't go back to being an MT. Seems a viable option for MTs wanting something different but still use our skills. Way to go!

Lets see if i make 3/6 a line that comes to 250 x 0.03 = 7.50 an hour -- wow minimum wage. 150 x 0.06 = 9.00 an hour -- McDonald's wages. At 4/7 250 x 0.04 = 10.00 an hour - Do you see the different 1 cents makes? 150 x 0.07 = 10.50 an hour even if you did slightly better and could do 300 lines an hour editing you would only get 9.00 an hour. Is it comparable to, higher than or lower than that? I'd never ask anyone to divulge their pay scale but I'm trying to get a feel for if it's better than where I'm at. I am wanting to submit a proposal to my company owner about implementing an incentive-based pay scale to help with some issues we are having with people not working consistently and to reward those who are putting in overtime, etc. I am having a hard time finding any information on this as far as like a sample scale. Just got an offer from MedQuist for Tier 2 but at a pay rate of 0.08/line with what is, in my opinion, a difficult work schedule for someone with a young family. For *pain* scale (1-10), i was taught to add the range if not dictated. Example: D: Pain was a 5. T: Pain was a 5/10. I'm not familiar with *function* scale. This is a spine surgeon. This particular patient is having neck and shoulder issues (if that matters). Is there a specific *function* scale? As best I can calculate, the Indian MTs are started at about $40/week. This is not an error. I looked at both the application from Nuance (which can be found by googling) as well as the exchange rate. So when you see all the "extras" they are offered, try not to be jealous; they can't buy groceries with those extras.
