MDSI hiring IC with listed schedule and if that's not bad enough - .07 cpl??? Are they nuts?

Shifts are listed directly after "hiring IC." What is wrong with these companies?

to think that we will not notice and that we are not that smart. been there, done that.
We should start copying the posts and sending them - to the IRS.

Not sure if it would do much good, but if the IRS starts getting multiple emails with the actual job postings with the infractions in black and white, maybe they'll at least investigate these companies. Better yet, wouldn't it be nice to know that because of their actual postings they were audited? Maybe it's time to start becoming proactive and turning them all in.

While we're at it everyone that works over 40 hours per week, is employee status, needs to report their MTSO to their Department of Wage and Hour, as not paying either minimum wage and/or overtime. If anyone is an employee and you are not being paid overtime for working over 40 hours per week, you are only putting money in the MTSO's pocket on your hard work. Many of these MTSO's think they are above the law and because we are the "home based invisible work force" we do not have rights. WRONG! We are considered piece workers, and if we work over 40 hours per week are entitled to overtime compensation. If you are new, and an employee and are not being compensated with minimum wage, you need to be, you cannot be expected to work for less than minimum wage.
We all need to remember we OUT number the MTSO's and our voices echo when we band together as MTs and Editors. We have GOT to start taking a stand. If you are an IC working for $0.0350 cpl on VR you are paying 38% of that to the IRS which means you are making about 1 cent per line, less than the INDIANS! THIS HAS TO STOP! It's sad when we can got to WalMart and make more money with less skills or ask, "would you like fries with that?" than we can being an MT. We are all extremely intelligent people, if we did not have above average intelligence we COULD not do this job, and these skills need to be respected and recognized. I sit here daily, like everyone else, sometimes when I get a really difficult report, and amaze myself at what I've just done! Let's face it, no anyone can sit in our seats, you HAVE TO HAVE a brain, and an education and/or experience to do this job, and it's time we started speaking up and putting our foot down on these ridiculous pay offers they are getting lower, and lower and lower, pretty soon we'll be expected to work for less than the offshores, with 200% higher living expenses! The offshores are demanding more and more money while we get paid less and less to correct their work. I work for MQ and QA that horrible work daily that comes back from offshore! They still can not transcribe op notes! LOL!
SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, OUR VOICES HAVE GOT TO BE HEARD! WE OWE THIS TO NOT ONLY OURSELVES BUT ALL THOSE PATIENT'S OUT THERE THAT ARE GETTING INCORRECT INFOR TRANSCRIBED OR ERRORS IN THEIR MEDICAL RECORD, I SAY LET'S CREATE SOME KIND OF LOBBY ON OUR OWN!

I was hired as an IC a couple of months ago and they aren't allowing me to change my shift. I thought that was normal. So a company cannot require an IC to work certain hours?
no they cannot require certain hours - if they do then you are an employee

Just kindly let your company know that you will be contacting the IRS to see if you qualify as an employee since you work a set shift. You will either lose your job or you will gain your shift. One or the other.

My guess is you will lose your job. Where as a company cannot "require" you to work a set shift, they also do NOT have to contract with you if you cannot work when work is available. It is simple, get on and work when work is available or simply don't work. If you don't care, neither do they. There is another IC transcriptionist just sitting out there waiting to take your place who would gladly work when there is work available. Just think of this though, if you wanted to hire an independent contractor to paint your house by a certain date and they could not get it done in your time frame - would you still hire them, or would you find someone who could do the job when you wanted it done? Because you required a certain time frame, would that mean that contractor could call the IRS and tell them you were treating them like an employee by requiring them to paint your house in "your" timeframe? If your paying the bill, you have the right to request how, when, and the quality of workmanship you want done. MTSO's are no different!!
I have 25 years of experience and am looking for P/T work on eScription. I have an Expert Certification in EditScript and am a fast and accurate editor. I am trying to find a company who has steady work without being assigned to tons of accounts in order to get your lines and also no set schedule. I don't care about whether it's employee or IC, but I need the flexibility because of having to care for my adult daughter with a disability.

Ok, I'm being careful here because I'm not sure what companies names' we can/cannot post so here we go:
I've been working for the same company (let's call it company TYPE A for now) for approximately 6-7 yrs as an IC. When I got my 1099's, the company's name TYPE A was always listed. As of January 2011, I became an employee and started recieving my checks via a payroll company, let's call them PAYROLL A.
I got my W2 (online) the other day. When I ...
Unfortunately, after working with ATSI's CEO (David Shepherd), this MTSO still has not paid outstanding wages and/or contract debts to MTs and other MT-related staff.

Hi all ~
I am curious how frequently QA is performed at your hospital.
We had been on a 2-reports-reviewed-quarterly schedule, but it seems QA is being pushed further and further onto the back burner because we've been so busy.
My boss would like for me to get a feel for what others are doing out there. I've worked at some hospitals that didn't do QA, ever, so I didn't have anything I could tell her.

I know how to find my PTO balance; but, how do you find out what it was at different dates previously, or if you even can. My PTO balance hasn't changed in over a month.
