I would like opinions on a GOOD transcription company to work for, or the ones to stay away from... Any advice will be appreciated.

I think you're going to have a hard time finding people to answer that question for you. IMO, transcriptionists working for "good companies" tend to want to keep it to themselves, with good reason because there are so many "bad" companies out there. Also, there are many "good" companies that don't advertise jobs because they don't need to. They have happy employees so the turnover is probably pretty low. I CAN tell you one company that didn't work out for me was Nuance but I see some people post on here that they enjoy working there, so to each his/her own. Good luck with your job search!

Thank you, that is great advice. I have had a couple bites from some MTSO companies, including Nuance,Transcend, quitea few IC but I really do not want to be an IC mostly due to having to pay my own taxes..did that before, it is awful!

decent midsized company. I've been with them 2-1/2 years now on second shift, decent straight typing account. I can't complain. QA are good people. You could do worse.

Hi Sean, I have been an MT for 31 years and have pretty much worked for a lot of the nationals that I see mentioned here and will not go back there again. I had been recruited for a company that I thought I had found my "forever home," (in fact, they recruited me from my posting my resume on another MT employment site) -- it was great, straight typing, IC status and weekly pay by direct deposit. However, my world crumbled in February, when the contract went to another service because the hospital felt that we were not meeting TAT. I then did a VERY brief stint at Focus/Nuance and pretty much believe what you read regarding the horror stories that have been posted. I became very stressed out and like many posters here, I do believe that most of my work was being QAd offshore. I found a job with ENTS (Electronic Medical Transcription)a few days after leaving Nuance, and I hope to be here until the day they put me 6 feet under. They have had a recent ad on here and while I can't tell you about this specific account (since it involves VR - the account I am on is straight typing). What they state in their ad for pay rates is true -- that is the rate that everyone is paid, regardless of their years of experience. I have found everyone that I work with to be very helpful and friendly -- they do not offshore (although a couple of the office staff are of Indian descent). I had a personal problem occur the day I was to have software installed and was not able to get it resolved for almost 2 weeks. Most companies would have blown me off -- however, they didn't. I can openly communicate with the owner and the general transcription supervisor and while I don't get an immediate answer, they do answer emails or get back to you by phone in a timely fashion. We have our own instant messenter system and are able to communicate that way and are encouraged to do so. They require 9500 lines a pay period for FT (again, this may be specific to my account; however seeing the rate for straight typing being the same, it may be that for all accounts). They pay twice a month by DD on the 10th and 25th of the month and the first check is a paper check to verify everything and I actually received it on the Wednesday before the pay period. I actually got my first "DD" check on the 25th (had to have a couple more paper checks because my computer bit the dust). I recieved the "paystub" for the deposit on the 25th a week before the actual deposit, so I knew what would be going into my bank account. They do offer insurance but it is not offered until you hit the 9500 line mark and I felt it was a bit high for individual coverage (I have my own insurance through my late hubby being retired military), so if I were to get insurance it would probably be medical and dental only. However, if you drop below the 9500 lines, you are in danger of losing your benefits, they will send you an email stating that "so far in the pay period, your lines are low." They do not "average lines," so if for example you do 9500 lines one pay period and 9000 the next, you will lose your benefits -- if it is a consistent drop over time, you go to part-time status and if it continues, you are terminated. They do understand if it is "circumstances beyond your control" - again, I had 2 computers crash and ended up having to get a new computer -- I received the warning letter, wrote an email to the office and they had forgotten that I was having problems with the computers. I have "slowed down" with age and no longer to really "crank out the daily lines" like I used to, but I did manage to achieve a little over 13K lines for the pay period I just completed. We do have a "time clock system;" however, we do not have to punch in and out for bathroom breaks etc -- basically you put down your start time and the time you finished and the time that you spent for "a break," whether it be dinner, running errands etc. As long as you are close to or at 40 hours a week, it is really not a disaster. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the time left that I have as an MT will be spent here.
I apologize for this being so long and I am not a suit (been there done that), but just trying to cover the bases and answer any questions you or anyone else may have regarding the company.
I have just spent the better part of my evening waging war against a very pesky and persistent virus called backdoor.cycbot. After several scans in safe mode, I think I finally got it, but now a bunch of my desktop icons are gone and on my start menu, when you click on the program name, there's nothing, just the word "empty." Long story short, I had manually find all my programs through Windows Explorer and creat a shortcut on my desktop for each and every one of them and I stil ...

I'm ready for a change. I've been with a company for 3 years, have been on upteen different accounts, and I just don't like them. Keeping up with all the extra things you have to do without pay has me soured. I would love to find a good company and am looking for suggestions. No IC. I don't care if it's editing or typing. KS seems to be getting lower and lower in the popularity with emplooyees test. I worked for them once but left for the reasons everyone is talking about. There was no communication. The owner was never truthful and everyone is afraid of her because of her horrible temper tantrums. The accounts are overstaffed - you might get put on another account but it will be overstaffed too. The only accounts that are not overstaffed are the terrible ones that no one wants to work on and it is imp ...

I am unhappy and have been for quite awhile with the company I am with. I am wondering if anyone has found any company they truly think are worth the effort of working for. I have over 20 years experience and I am not eager to jump from job to job, but it seems there are so many company's out there that are really, really bad. I am currently working at a hospital as a Lab Assistant in Pathology. My job has many different responsibilities, but majority is transcription – which I love! I am trying to decide if I want to try becoming an at home medical transcriptionist. This is a huge decision/risk for me as I have been in my current position since 1999. I used to love my job, but as the years have passed, I have found myself disgusted to go to work. This is due to changes in personnel and too many people not ...
I've been with TransTech for about 2 years, but I'm going to back to working with people now that I'm not having to deal with military moves anymore. I thought I'd pass along to the job hunters that TransTech is a good place- they pay on time, have a good work load consistently, and not too much ESL. It's not for you if you don't want to commit to 40 hours or work a few holidays, but it's an honest gig that you can make a living with. ...

Has anyone ever went to work for a company and struggled? I have tons of experience and done this kind of work for years, but I started with a particular company and seems I am making a ton of stupid mistakes. This has EVEN HAPPENED WITH PROOFREADING the report once finished!! I double-check myself only to see something ridiculous and can't believe I did that and know I proofread the document.
The last time this happened to me was when I worked for a company that obviousl ...
