I have been working at Transcend since Dec. 20. I have not been able to consistently average a good line count. I was wondering if it was possible for me to get a decent line count. Well, last night I got several reports in a row of a good dictator that the VR picked up well. I got 300 lines in an hour for him, which is a lot better than I do on some. So I know it is possible to do decent BUT I get dictators that are so bad that the VR still won't even pick them up after 2 months. Some are terrible, and it is really cutting into my lines. I don't know what to do about this, but if something doesn't change soon, I will be asking to change to a different account. There has to be a better one than this.

will make much less than you should. They may feel they have no choice in order to keep the account, but they have to have people working on the account and will do what they can to keep from moving you.

What they can do is limited, though. Don't let them buffalo you. Maybe put in the best performance you can before moving from request to demand if it comes to that? Invest a few weeks wowing your team leader with your excellence and dependability (impeccable time card, always available for overtime, answer messages promptly, or whatever), e-mail messages always with friendly can-do/will-do attitude, NO problems, etc. Then let them know their choice has come down to move you or lose you.

I started 8 weeks before you. It is a great company, good benefits, lots of work, but I am not making any money.

I had high lph rates at other jobs, but at Transcend I have to work 60 or more hours to keep my benefits. I put down 40 on the time sheet which is another hot topic, but if they didn't let me work over, I would lose my insurance. I'm finally up to $10/hour and I have no life.

Headers slow me down and of course looking up new terms, but I haven't noticed my speed improving as the weeks go by, which is worrisome.

They would be a great PT job, but I keep looking for something else FT with benefits. There is just no outside work where I live.

If you like your TL, you might want to stay where you are for a bit longer. Ask for tips or classes to build up your speed. Did you do the new employee orientation? At mine there were a few with some horror stories about bad teams and HR was working with them to place them in another region.

I work a different company but having the same problems. I made 3 times the money at my old job doing straight typing. This VR is for the birds. The headers are time consuming, finding Dr names for copies when not in the system, having to use a macro and then move it all around to fit in between the VR parts, those I especially love. I'm keeping an eye out for jobs around my area. Anything has to be better than this crap.

If you have a decent team lead it is best to stay where you are in this industry cuz you never know what the next one will be like.

Could it be they are placing the newer employees on the accounts no one else wants to type? Maybe by fluke you got good work that day because the person who normally types for that doc/account was off or something.

My advice is to try to get use to your dictators even if they are hard and make templates. Work the extra hours if you are able to get better, but by all means if you have a decent team lead stay put.

I know from experience with Transcend that the folks in certain regions and team leads can make your life miserable. Listen to those folks who are telling those horror stories about some of those regions. I experienced it first hand.

VR is pretty much a sucker's game IF you're looking to make as much as you used to make as an MT.

It's not VR, it's that the change to VR is USED - to "hide" payroll cuts. As in:

BTW, that observation comes from someone who has always tried harder, worked smart, and mostly made up the losses. Not from a self-defeater who can't/won't try looking for excuses.

I keep seeing MTs saying they make more on UE than at work. Isn't your UE based on what you made prior to applying for UE? If you make say $400 a week before UE, then UE would be a smaller percentage than $400 a week to the best of my knowledge. I never thought you would make even as much on UE let alone more. My account went to VR a few months ago. The docs who cannot do VR because they cannot talk worth a crap still have to be typed. The best part is, instead of making 10 cpl, we now get paid 6 cpl to do it. Basically, I am now making what I made about 11 or 12 years ago. I was wondering, is anybody making any money at all on voice? I keep hearing just minimum or maybe a little more. I call minimum wage 7.50 to 8.00 an hour. Okay, so I signed on with Transcend because they said, "Do you want to be guaranteed $900 per pay period as full time?" Well, sure. That sure reeled me in. Ok, finally, the horrors have happened to me. All was well, but now I'm getting seriously pissed. I work 8 hour shifts 5 days a week. Those hours are mandatory. I've had the same line rate (9 cpl) for 5 years, and I notice the new accounts they offer MTs pay 7.5 or 8 cpl at most.
