How long do you give a new company to actually put you to work? - disgusted MT

Hired by new co. only to discover they have no work!!!!!!! It's been 2 weeks now. They advertised about needing a lot of new MTs within the past couple months, but I rarely hear from them. I was put on one account since that has had no work. Now what? Why did they bother to hire me? I wonder if anyone else is in the same boat?

Several months ago, I was hired by a company the "week before" a new account was to start. I'm single and self-supporting so my ability to be flexible is very limited. I made sure I had another job at the same time and it was a good thing because I'd have gone belly up.

It took almost 2 months before the acct I was hired for actually started. My acct mgr was absolutely wonderful. She'd seen my work and my work ethic as I trained up on their platform and wanted to keep me, so she tried to feed me work. This meant within 10 days of starting with them, I was trained on 6 different accounts for two acct managers. I did ask for repeated assurances the new acct was truly coming and I was reassured.

Something in my gut tho told me this was a good place to work and so I was willing to do whatever I needed outside of their company to hang in there and wait.

It's not easy just twiddling your thumbs...

Do you mind saying which company? I think it might be one I applied to. Sorry you are having to go through this. If they actually hired you and you are sitting there as an employee WAITING FOR WORK, go to your Labor Board and see what can be done. Good luck.

they all now have no real rules to go by, other than cheating lying. They keep you in the dark. They will come up with some excuse. KS was really good for that.

The very first job I had took 3 weeks to get me through training (such as it was) and orientation. It was then that I decided I wouldn't wait more than 2 weeks before contacting someone.

The most recent job I took promised a lot of things, mainly a specific training program. The trainer kept not showing up for scheduled training and I was delayed constantly. No one was available to contact so I quit, and THEN the owner of the place shows up (after ignoring me for 3 weeks) to tell me I'm a horrible person.

Lesson learned: Any place that will hire you and then leave you sitting for weeks is going to have other problems besides the alleged lack of work.

This is what happened. I have done transcription for a local doctor for two years, no problems. ASR was doing better a little while back now it is way screwed up again...Which means they hired people that dont know what they are doing..They need to make it about a year or so on new hires before they go through the filter and screw it up..And you would think at the very least there would be a filter to keep misspelled words from printing out,,,Just my opinion ...

I just want to let everybody know there are other fields where we can put our skills to use. I responded to an ad asking for a transcriptionist and thinking it was medical I sent my resume of 20+ years MT and got hired . It turns out its a legal transcriptionist for workers comp lawyers. After working for more than 30 years as a medical transcriptionist, having gone through so many changes in the field, I left it all behind a year ago. I have been considering going to Andrews to become an MT for and I have never done it because I get on these boards and get scared to death! I have worked in the Medical field for 13 years (as a clinical tech and surgery....included in that is some limited transcription and scribing). I now stay home with my kids. Do you think it is necessary to give 2 weeks notice if I am ALWAYS out of work. For example I should be done with my 8 hour shift in an hour and I am not even half way through the day due to being out of work on my primary and ALL of my back ups.
