Focus Infomatics - anything about their platform? - anom

Posted: Dec 07, 2009

I looked through the archives but couldn't find anything about their platform.   I did speak with their recruiter and YOU HAVE to have a 32-bit operating system, XP or Vista, and Windows 7 is not compatible.  I'm pretty sure that when I looked at these guys about a year ago now, they set you their computer like many of the national companies do.  Also, does it seem like more employers are looking for MTs.  I haven't been on this site for a while but I think it was in October, November maybe even September that there were hardly any jobs being offered or thrown out there at all by anybody.  As always thanks for your help

Platform - me

They use Escribe.

Here's why I think so many companies are looking for MTs - just my opinion

[ In Reply To ..]
It seems to me that the companies who are always looking and always advertising for MTs tend to be mostly the bigger to medium nationals...who (not coincidentally) are also the companies that also have already...or are in the process of...switching all of their accounts over to VR.

So what I think is that they are not able to find MTs who will accept a job with them. Or if they do, the MTs won't actually stay on the job for any length of time, because most MTs simply are not able making a decent living wage with what they are offering to pay for VR work.

So along with the other problems that these bigger national companies have, I think that this is also a reason for their big turnover rate, hence the need to constantly do advertising and hiring. I think this is also why these companies keep constantly over hiring, so much so that their current MTs are left to sit there all day, just hoping for enough work to do. These companies know that their turnover rate is high and that a lot of the MTs won't end up staying with them, so they have to keep hiring, hiring, hiring.

Different perspective - MT Manager

[ In Reply To ..]
I currently work for a large national in low-level management. I think that the reason a lot of the bigger companies are always looking and always hiring is because they are getting more and more accounts. IMHO, I think that a lot of smaller companies are being squeezed out due to lack of technology, inability to provide benefits and inability to staff 24/7. Because of this, there are new accounts for the larger MTSOs. I personally think that in a few years, only the biggest 10 companies will be around with maybe a few mom and pop companies with small clinic accounts.

I don't think so - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
If that were the case, a lot of MTs would love working for those bigger companies and the turn around rates would be low. I agree with the post before that there is a high turn around rate because MTs are finding that they are not making enough money to live on these days with VR and the type of work available and wind up looking elsewhere or quitting. These companies promise lots of work and good money per line and when an MT takes the job they found out that is not the case and they make no money and cannot stay at their job.
I think you would be surprised at how low the turnover really is. sm - MT Manager
[ In Reply To ..]
I was surprised when I was promoted as I had always thought that the turnover was high, and that was why they advertised so much. I found out that there is about 10% of each of the big companies that is a rotating door and a lot of those MT's go from company to company, but 90% of the MT's stay where they are. I know that the company I work for advertises for new MT's because of that 10% and also because new accounts start every month.
I'm not a manager but I agree - New accounts for bigger companies. no msg

Talking VR, I work for a smaller company, might call - mom and pop type and

been there over 2 years and can and do make a really good salary on VR. I am really happy with the money I make with VR, not everyone makes peanuts.

fewer jobs across the board - retired CEO

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes thats right, I am a retired CEO but have family in the medical transcription industry, thus my read on all this is quite simple. With the technology of Voice recognition in various stages currently, the end result in the near future will create an atmosphere where less Mts will be needed. Those that choose to stay in this occupation will have to be willing to put up with all the employment uncertainties and issues that are currently exist both in larger and smaller MTSOs alike, but unfortunately fewer MT jobs will become available.
However, please believe me when I say their will be a lot fewer managers or STMs that will be needed as a direct result.

Whatever spin you folks want to put on this, it is the truth. I should come out of retirement,as a direct benefit from voice recognition upper management levels will achieve even higher yearly incomes than they have in the past.

Less - discouraged
[ In Reply To ..]
I went for the VR for job security purposes as an MT, but after 6 months I am still making 25% less than traditional, so you said a mouthful when you said the upper levels of management would make more with VR. I know that a lot of hospitals have closed or changed management in these hard times, but other medical professionals are NOT PAID LESS and I don't like being the one cut.
future of transcription industry.. fewer jobs - Retired CEO
[ In Reply To ..]
I only agreed to make the above post because my daughter is going through the same experiences that a lot of you folks are.She as well as all of you need to consider the future in this industry.
Please do not misunderstand the nature of my post. Perhaps when I gave my opinion of fewer jobs in the future know that I am speaking of MTs,Editors and STMs alike, not just the traditional MT as you have just referred to.
The cold hard fact remains that voice recognition will provide MTSOs the opportunities to have greater profits with less employees straight across the board.
end post....

I was part of a class action suit against them - goodtimes

[ In Reply To ..]
a couple of years ago. They weren't paying a bunch of us the overtime we were supposed to get. Got a nice settlement from it. I don't remember them sending equipment when I worked for them, but that was about 5 years ago and I was an IC.

If you were an IC, why would you be on an OT lawsuit? - curious

[ In Reply To ..]
I am an IC and do not get OT because they do not control my schedule or hours that I work. As an IC, I can work 100 hours at the same rate with no OT. I think OT is for employees only.

When I was there, the platforms used were Netscript, EditScript and Dictaphone ExtText.

They supply the equipment? That's news to me, but I haven't been there in about a year.

In October 2008, their client decided to upgrade to EditScript Version 8. Our previous version of EditScript, V6.1, allowed use of Word 2000. With 2 days notice, I had to purchase Word 2003 in order to use EditScript V8. Then, my computer would not download EditScript V8. The tech from Escription/Nuance could not solve the problem. So, I had to purchase a new computer. No one at Focus seemed to really care whether I continued to work or not. Then, less than a month after purchasing a new computer in order to work on EditScript V8, the account went poof in the night. It was there one day and gone the next.

Btw, since that time, without the help of the Focus help desk or techs from Escription or Nuance, I was able to figure out the problem with my original computer on my own. It had something to do with updating the kernel.dll and Java. Now, both of my computers run Editscript Version 8 just fine.

My point was, that Focus neither provided the equipment, nor efficient technical support. I was an employee, too.

Unfortunately, I keep searching for a good company, one that treats employees decently, with some minimal respect, and I have thus far not been able to find this in the MT industry for an MT with less than 7 years of experience.

So, Focus may or may not be a good choice OR a good enough choice. It depends on what else is out there for you, which may not be much.

TransTech - Treats us good

TransTech treats us really good. However, it is the doctor dictation that makes or breaks you whatever account you are on at any company.

Anyone Know Anything About Focus Infomatics?
May 04, 2010

I received an e-mail today from a recruiter at Focus Infomatics.  I applied there last year and didn't meet their experience criteria but the e-mail asked me to send them an updated resume to see if I do now (and I do).  I currently work for MQ and quite frankly, I could take it or leave it.  I've not been impressed by MQ but I don't see a reason to leave a job I'm not fond of for another job I may like even less.  Any info about them would be greatly ...

Is Focus Infomatics Really US-based Now?
Jan 29, 2010

A former manager of mine from "brand X MTSO" (in reality, a very dear friend now) got thrown under the bus.  She knows how "QBay" does.  She is considering an MT or QA job for Focus Infomatics.  Focus claims to not offshore, and has offered my friend 8 cpl.  That sounds terribly lame wage wise for all that experience. When I couldn't drink the MQ Kool-Aid anymore, I was making a whopping 9 cpl.  Of course, try doing the math on that formula come payday.   Jus ...

and has been there long enough to be eligible for benefits?  I just took a job with them.  I will be able to get insurance in 90 days.  They give me a price.  It is $217 every pay period (2 weeks) for family coverage.  That is Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance with a $2500 deducitble.  What I was wondering... is there a copay on Dr visits or do you have to meet the deductible first?  I believe she said you pay copay on prescriptions.  Also does anyone have ...

Question About Pay At Focus Infomatics
Sep 08, 2010

Hi. I have a question about pay at Focus that hopefully someone can answer.  Transcription is paid at 8 cents per line and editing at 3 or 4 cents a line. Focus
Dec 02, 2014

Recently I had the benefit of hearing someone speak on where our focus lies.  It wasn't a talk about employment at all, but I started thinking about it today as I read through the posts on this board.
