A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
It's been a couple weeks and I thought I'd provide an update for those wondering if this is for them. The pros as I see them are that they are very flexible, they pay fast and via Paypal, and they respect their staff. However, the work itself is a crap shoot.
They have a nice feature that let's you listen to a half hour of it before you commit, but if you judge wrong, you are working for minimum wage, possibly less if you are overly contientious or just plain slow.
The work can be anything, student notes, meetings, film narrative, interviews, sales pitches, you name it. Sometimes it is ful of names and specialiized trade jargon, sometimes not. Sometimes it is one on one in a conference room and you can hear clearly identified speakers, other times it is at a trade show booth with the crowd and loudspeaker..no telling. Don't count on the speakers being native English either.
Having done both legal and medical transcription previoulsy I would say you are better suited to do this work if you've done court transcripts. Medical requires a totally different skill set.
In summary, if you have nothing to do for a few hours and you just want to make $20, then it's for you. If you need to make a living doing this, you better be type like the wind and have radar hearing. Good luck!
