Anybody ever work for Volunteer Transcription? - Stephanie

I had sent my resume, tested, and received an e-mail back asking about when I would like to start working last week. Time goes by and nothing. I figured it was because we had the Turkey Day holiday. I have sent followup e-mails and even called and left a couple of messages and still nada. Anyone have any experience with Volunteer Transcription they would like to share?

Same thing happened to me about a month ago. Sent them a resume back in September. They called me the first of last month asking me if I was still interested in a job, which I said yes. I asked them what type of work were they hiring for and they told me OB-GYN clinics. I told them that I was definitely interested. They said they would get back with me soon.

Heard nothing. A week later I called them (googled them and found their number) and she said, "oh, sorry, I was out of town. I will call you tomorrow and "go over things." This was 11/10. Still heard nothing.

Something "smells fishy" to me at the very least.

I tested for Oncology work. From my experience and what you posted, it does sound very fishy. I guess I'll just say whatever and let it go. I just hate the fact that I just had my time wasted apparently.

I typed a few reports for her. She owed me about 30 bucks. I never pursued it. I quit at the blink of an eye because I never got responses on questions, etc. The FTP site is a flippin' mess...

Trust me, you'd do better working for any other company but this one. The lady is out to lunch permanently in my honest opinion.

This field is PATHETIC. I once worked for TTD and every single payday, my check was either short or I did not receive it at all. When I questioned the owner about my pay, I was let go...simply asking for the money I made...A--- fired me. Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? After they pushed ASR on me, (said that I wouldn't ever get a 50:50 ratio of ASR to transcription) I am getting mostly ASR work. My pay has dropped significantly. Can they do this? ...

Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. Now all that's left are transcription companies here in the U.S. that don't want to pay much more, lie to us and tamper with our line counts. GET OUT, GET OUT OF TRANSCRIPTION! ...

It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand.
