I was informed that I have lost my job due to some VA contracts being lost. I was just wondering if anyone else was told the same thing. I enjoyed working for them even though it was VBC. The company that is taking the lost accounts over now I find out they are or were for sale. I have been on a Merry-Go-Round for 5 years since my hospital outsourced. Any info would help me in making a decision.

Sorry to hear you are getting laid off, but you should be unemployment since they have to classify you as an employee. When did you get your notice. I knew they had to pay some back wages but didn't hear about them losing contracts. As for the company taking over, maybe if you give us the name someone might know if they are for sale, etc. It's been a real merry-go-round years everywhere. I hope everything works out okay for you.

I too have been "traded" to the new company. I have heard good things about the company by their employees...now it is wait and see. The person I talked to yesterday was very nice, but really did not know how all this would work out. Crossing my fingers for good things....just so uncertain... by law they have to offer us a job...its not by choice.

Maybe traded isn't the best word to use, but it is because of new laws,

Executive Order 13495, â��Nondisplacement of Qualified Workers Under Service Contracts,â�� requires that â��workers on a federal service contract who would otherwise lose their jobs as a result of the completion or expiration of a contract be given the right of first refusal for employment with the successor contractorâ��.

So they have to offer us a job...we go with the contract.

Thanks for the details. So is it because the contracts are "completed or expired", or is this because they got caught misclassifying their MTs.

I have not heard anything and also work on two accounts at KNR. Can you give a hint with an initial or something? Would like to find out more.

They won't say anything, the facilities will just disappear. The new company told us Wichita, Topeka, Leavenworth and Columbia were going with them now....

I have an odd question. If a US trained Medical Transcriptionist works from home (in the U.S.), but then decides to spend 1/2 the year (or more) in a foreign country, is it possible (ethical/legal) to continue working as an MT while in that country? The MT would keep the US address, and bank account. All paychecks would continue to be direct deposited into current U.S. bank account. MT would continue to pay U.S. taxes on all monies earned. I know I am not the only one working 2 jobs or more. Between them I am scheduled 68 hours per week. I have them spread out enough I have "long breaks" in between to fix supper, take a little me time out around the lunch hour and housework kind of gets slighted.
