Amphion or Accentus - curious MLS

Posted: Apr 24, 2012

Looking at these 2 companies closely and wanting to make a change very soon.    I've always heard great things about Amphion, and applied with them once but didn't accept the offer because the pay was a bit lower.  I  haven't heard much on them lateley so if anyone works for them currently I'd love to hear about it.

Also curious about Accentus.  Their add claims to start VR at 0.055.  Has anyone recently received an offer from them, or currently work there and able to verify this?  Not sure I want to go through all the testing if their VR rate is just like everyone ellse (in the 0.04 range)  Also, any information on Accentus schedule flexibility and health benefit premiums and deductibles would be greatly, greatly appreciated!  I'm preggers so this is especially important.

Thanks everyone!

Amphion--low pay - BellaCMT

Amphion is quite awful. I work there now and 4 cpl for editing isn't enough to make ends meet. Each person's experience varies, and you may join Amphion and like it, but there is no getting around the low pay scale for editing.

Thanks for your input! Yes, that's what they had offered me for VR when I applied. I think the account was clinic and not acute care, so I thought maybe it wouldn't be too hard to get line counts up, but it's always much harder than we think :) Is your account acute care or clinic, and what do you normally average per day VR? Is your work flow steady? Thanks :)

You're welcome - BellaCMT

My account is both acute care and clinic. The platform is actually easy to learn. I was hired thinking I would have 70% traditional/30% VR; however, I have had 99% VR. The work flow is steady and some accounts have extra time/OT requests at the moment. I can't seem to get past $10/hr. I work my shift, skip breaks, pay attention, etc., and I can't get my line count up.

There is also a confusing way they do lines. You have your typed lines and then adjusted lines. From what I was told, their payroll software cannot differentiate between VR/straight typing, so your lines are "adjusted" to make sure you are paid correctly. This adjustment took 1000 lines away from me last week, so I'm not sure how they consider that fair or correct. Having worked at local hospitals and then other MTSOs for many years, this is the lowest pay I've ever received.

To be fair, I know a few people who have been here for years and are happy. It's tough to find a good fit with a company. I hope you're happy wherever you decide to go!
thx again - curious MLS

It is definitely hard to find the right fit. I thought for sure I'd made the right choice with the company I'm currently with, but am disappointed with the recent buy-out and have also had a lot of changes in my account work type settings, which is making it difficult for me to perform well and making me pull my hair out!

I am also a certified medical coder, but just don't have the 3 years of experience all of the remote companies require, but can't work outside of the home due to having a 3-year-old and another little one on the way. I originally wanted to work with Amphion because they of course have a remote coding department so I have some sort of false hope that maybe they'd let me take their coding test if I worked as an MLS for some time (showing them I"m a good worker, etc). The recruiter said that might be possible but wasn't sure.

I'm not making much more than 0.04 cpl now, and I'm really HATING my account and wishing I could do coding or maybe even just straight clinic transcription. Accentus is tempting, as they seem to offer higher VR pay, and I think they have coders as well but not nearly as many as Amphion so my chances of getting hired on as a coder there would probably be much lower.

Maybe it's worth the lower pay for awhile to see if I can break into the coding world with them after some time? My resume is going to look terrible, as I've only been with my currently company for 8 months so I really want to make sure I can stay at the next one for at least a year :)

Anyway, thanks for your responses and I hope things get a little better for you at Amphion!
Moving to coding! - BellaCMT

I have been researching the best approach to learning coding. What a coincidence! I was looking at online schools and think I'm going with AAPC for CPC-H. I did read on the AAPC board that Amphion let someone test out (without experience) and did hire them. I hope they do the same for you.

Nice chatting! You have a great afternoon!
Coding! - curious MLS

Wow-that's great you are making the move to coding! I did my training with Career Step, but the AAPC is certainly probably one of the best schools to go with, especially if you want to test right away. I found the CPC test not so bad, and even found a coding job right away but it was outside of the home and it just didn't work out for me.

I only have about 6 months of coding experience, and I'm having major trouble finding anything remote; everybody wants 3 years. I've applied, applied, and applied. I can't even get anyone to let me take their test, which I think I would do well on it if given the chance.

I'm sitting for AHIMAs CCS exam in May, and I know it's a lot more difficult than the CPC but I"m hoping I'll pass and then have dual certs. Hopefully I'll be a little more appealing for the remote jobs then, but we'll see!

Was the person you mentioned who tested with Amphion and got hired without experience already working for them as an MLS? Maybe I can get another contact and beg for a test.. lol!

Thx and good luck on your coding adventure! :)

Good luck with everything!

One must obtain the amount of lines required to receive PTO or other benefits. You must do this all while bouncing from one account to another with completely different expectations from each account and having to look up/verify/confirm correct. IMHO, a lot of things are not right here.

thanks! anyone from Accentus? - curious MLS

Thanks for the information! The line requirements in order to keep PTO/benefits sounds similar to where I'm at now, and lately I've been jumping around between accounts and am really not liking that either. It seems it's kind of the same everywhere, some offering a bit more per line than others for VR. I think the only reason to switch to them would be for the coding aspect, and hope that I could transition to that side at some point.

Anyone from Accentus have any information on VR cpl? It would be greatly appreciated :)

I totally agree with the other Amphion MTs. No matter how much I type, I can't make any money. The way they "adjust" the lines is horrible and I don't trust it. I like my accounts, they are easy but it doesn't matter...can't afford this anymore. Gotta get out of the MT biz!

LPH At Accentus
May 04, 2012

Hi.  I haven't been working for Accentus very long, but long enough that I should be meeting the 200 lph requirement for SR, but I'm still really struggling to do it.  I was wondering if anyone else had that experience or if maybe I am entering my time incorrectly or something.  I consistently average 165 lph for straight transcription so I feel like 200 is something I shouldn't be struggling so hard to meet, but I am.  I love Accentus so far so I don't wa ...
