Accentus - frequently run out of work? - sm
Posted: Aug 21, 2012
I've searched and not found what I'm looking for on the company board about Accentus. Before I test, I just wanted to know a couple of things. I would be on the acute care side.
1. Do you frequently run out of work?
2. Is it true that they don't pay for spaces, but that it is based on a 55 character count, because that pretty much evens it out and is not a problem for me.
3. Is the pay scale they gave true or just bait and switch?
4. I have no problem with ESLs, so not worried about that.
5. Is the audio okay or is it scratchy?
6. I liked DQS when I was on it, platform-wise. Is their's similar?
Things couldn't be worse where I currently work (Nuisance). So I am willing to tolerate quite a bit, if I can get a decent pay per line.

I just quit working for On-Time and that's who Accentus recently bought. They off-shore, which I don't like. I ran out of work a lot but not sure how it'll be now. The pay after 11 years was horrible, about 1/8th of what I had been making. QA complained about everything; even on accounts they'd never worked and knew nothing about. Good luck.
Lines/hour equals pay rate - anon

Your lines per hour (traditional transcription and speech) determine your pay rate, which varies paycheck to paycheck. You'll read this a lot about Accentus...no communication.

I had trouble running out of work as a new employee, but you can't get a second account until you're over a certain LPH for a payperiod or quality period (not really sure which). My first supervisor acknowledged it was a catch-22, but she couldn't change the rule. You just need to make sure you log 40 hours at over the minimum LPH for getting a secondary account, even if that means flexing, flexing, flexing.
The pay is decent and would be very good if you could edit about 325 LPH, but it is all based on LPH. I would advise creating a spreadsheet to keep track of your LPH on transcription and SR so you know where you sit, that is unless you can just go in and blow the doors off your account and know for sure you're above the minimums. As soon as you start reporting your lines on your timesheet and not training hours, they start counting your LPH. You are to be up to speed after 30 days from the date of hire, and they do write you up if you're not there.
Some audio is good, some bad. As far as ESLs, the first account I had I couldn't understand 1 of every 2 reports, but they really do work with you if you need a different account assignment. I thought the platform was somewhat similar to eScription, and what I really liked was all the caregivers involved in the case were listed in the demo's, so if you needed to pin down a doc, it was pretty easy. You will need to meet their internet speed requirements, though, and I had to upgrade to an $80/month plan where I live and still was only about half the upload speed they recommend. That will slow you down.
The bookkeeping aspect of it really slows your rhythm down (having to log each job), and it is mandatory. Their method of disseminating information involves logging into several different portals, so it is easy to get lost in understanding how to do things. The scheduling is really complicated, and it sucks to have to fill that in each time you're out of work.
My experience was unfortunate in that my recruiter left the Friday before I started and my supervisor went back to being an MT a couple weeks after I was released from QA. There ended up being a lot of things not explained to me, and I went a little Norma Rae on them because I felt to hold me to a standard that I was not aware of was unfair (what do you do?). I couldn't prove what someone who didn't work there anymore didn't tell me, and I got tired of feeling defensive. On a good note, the person who replaced the recruiter I worked with seems very nice, and I don't think you would have any problems asking her questions until you're clear on things.
All that being said, everyone's experience is unique. I feel like I had a bad situation in a fairly good company. I'm almost positive I won't find an account as good as the one I ended up on, but what's done is done.
Good luck to you!
Accentus still - another MT

I agree with everything Ex-Accentus Too stated above. IMO, compared to Nuisance, it's a very good company, but some people love it, some hate it. One of the biggest complaints is that communication can be horrible, and trying to get answers from some people can be very difficult. You do have to be a high producer to make the really good $$. Pay rate is based on LPH, and the top level is pretty high (especially compared to what everyone else pays now). The platform does not have all the bells-and-whistles that some have and can be a little slow, but they seem to be slowly adding functionality. It's probably worth testing with them and getting a chance to speak with the account supervisor on your potential account.
See to be adding functionality? Oh but no! What? - Do not think the change is worth it.

Apex is a complete and utter horror, at least on the acute care side. I've been MTing over 20 years & until Accentus had NEVER encountered a company that expects the MT to account every job from a written log. It's nuts. And your timekeeping endeavors are not compensated. It IS a bizarre place. I turned down a couple of excellent job offers to be at Accentus. Tried to get those jobs after I realized what acute care with them is. Too little, too late.
Ask more questions than I did before going with Accentus. Only 1 reason why their rewards look good.
Thanks everyone - OP

That logging part is crazy... I will probably test after I call and ask a few questions. I have to make a list. Appreciate the heads up.

LPH At Accentus May 04, 2012Hi. I haven't been working for Accentus very long, but long enough that I should be meeting the 200 lph requirement for SR, but I'm still really struggling to do it. I consistently average 165 lph for straight transcription so I feel like 200 is something I shouldn't be struggling so hard to meet, but I am. I love Accentus so far so I don't wa ...

ACCENTUS/TRANSOLUTIONS Mar 20, 2012Medical Transcription just keeps going downhill. They expect more and pay less.
