Considering retraining...what's your experience? - sleepymt Posted: Jun 3rd, 2021 - 11:03 pm
Since I'm not able to find an employee position and I'm barely making $400 a month full time, I've been looking at retraining options in my state. I know there's no "free lunch" but I wasn't expecting what I found. They have programs set up with local universities and community colleges all over the state. However, you pay full price for the training and whatever certificate/degree that will result. Also in my state, the requirements for the retraining programs are not for people currently working despite the little amount I make.
Has anyone else been through retraining programs either on the state level or nationally (if there is such a thing)? What was your experience?
Just trying to see what's out there. Right now, if I didn't live with my mother, I wouldn't be able to afford a place to live let alone paying bills, healthcare outside of Medicaid, food, etc. It's frightening. It also doesn't help that I have chronic illness that I'm dealing with that keeps me a remote worker (but still not sick enough for assistance). I thought the pandemic would show companies it's possible for people to work remotely. Unfortunately in my area, all the remote work is gone.
Thanks for your input!
