Absolutely - and still have a good job - MTVet Posted: Mar 1st, 2021 - 1:41 pm In Reply to: How has anyone EVER made money in medical transcription? - MT66
For four years (2013-2017), I made around $50k/year working around 32 hours/week typing radiology for a small company that had been in business for nearly 20 years. Admittedly, the supervisor said I was her fastest MT. My job ended and the company went out of business when the hospital decided to go with Nuance.
At this job, I was paid based on production - starting at 10.5 cents/line up to 13.5 cents/line. Every CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammogram, etc. had a technique section where I typed in a code and the lines popped up. I was paid for all of those lines in addition to everything I typed. I made shortcuts in Word for everything.
I still have a good MT job (employee, straight typing), although I did have some mediocre jobs in between losing my last job until I got this one. I make good money now, although not as much as the $50k/year job.
