This is true; however, I don't see that - agencies are especially interested

I've compiled information to present to the IRS and DOL because I'm sick of it.

I've read here and there that if the IRS sees only one 1099 for someone, that's a red flag and they'll take notice. I'd deduce therefrom that it'd also be a red flag if it's the same person with the same source of the 1099s over a period of years.

I've been (mis-) classified as an IC for a very long time. I haven't heard a peep about it. In fact, I'd like to ask the IRS and/or DOL (federal and state) if they're the slightest bit curious.

At different government sites I saw all sorts of stuff about how serious they are about this...blah-blah. One state recently passed a law that signing an agreement gives weight to somone's being IC--except if person is misclassified, well, it's still illegal. That is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. A first-year law student could tell you that a contract to engage in illegal practice is null and void.

Then again, these are government agencies. People employed there don't have reputations for being particularly industrious.
