MT work - Andrea Posted: Jan 21st, 2020 - 11:22 am In Reply to: New here/Is there really no hope in being hired? - Sarah
I've been an MT since 1995 and I've never had trouble finding a job. When the family practice clinic I worked in for 13 years closed its doors in 2017, I took 18 months off, but when I was ready to jump back into the transcription thing, I applied at several places online and found a wonderful company where I quickly went from MT to Lead MT in 8 months (FYI - lead MT is a position I have held for another company in the past so my experience in that area was a plus).
If anything, I believe nowadays companies are more picky and demand more expertise.
As far as the company I currently work for, we put out feelers all the time for new MTs, but the response we get is lacking for truly trained MTs (we get a lot of "i typed my own reports in college" or "I know how to type" kind of resumes), so for a new MT to get their foot in the door, yes, I agree, it may be a little more difficult.
