You make it sound so easy, a simple solution to even the most complex problem.
Yes people should have a backup method to store all their things. Yes they should know how to do it.
Maybe there's way too much stuff on someone's computer to have to move to storage on a small flash drive or other small piece. Settings they don't want to have to redo again.
Maybe some people are not comfortable enough to do such an irreversible step as factory reset.
Factory reset might get rid of VDI. Then again, how do you know what nuisance put in that VDI crap? A bug that might not leave the computer even with a factory reset?
You don't know everything, despite your little fantasy that you do.
