My take - sm

Are they really teaming up?

It looks to me like MM just sold their most valuable asset, VR tech. Why would they do that? Can they be viable long-term without their technology?

Selling your technology isn't how you maintain long-term profitability. This is a short-term profit play. Consider the following:
* MM couldn't sell the whole company, which would include the transcription workforce, contracts, and technology. Who would buy it? Nuance? They just laid off almost all their MTs and are moving transcription to VDI through contractors.
* MM sold what they could. The tech.
* MM has contracts that force them to continue services or face penalties and lawsuits.

MM sold the tech so they could get some money. Meanwhile, they will continue to fulfill their contracts (provide customer service) until those contracts expire. The existing contracts won't be renewed. MM is done. They will close the doors after their last contract is done. They will lay off people as soon as they are no longer needed.

They may try to sell the contracts individually to other vendors so they can get out earlier with more profit.
