I have worked as an employee for 2 of the big 3. As an IC, I now have freedom. I can work whatever hours I want as long as I make the required minimum line count in 24 hours. I can take off when I want with a few days notice. No nights, weekends, or holidays. I do not have to keep clocking in and out and in and out all day for 8-14 hours trying to get the required line count. If there is no work, I do not have to do makeup time. I do not have to deal with swap boards. I do not have someone micromanaging me and keeping track of my inactive time even if I do make the line count. I do not have someone trying to change my schedule around. I can take a 15 minute lunch break or 1-1/2 hour lunch break. No one cares.
The slight decrease, if any, in my pay has well very well worth it for me.
