...for the conjunction "and" when it joins two independent clauses. It ("and") serves other purposes in which a semicolon would not be appropriate whatsoever.
This is what I'm talking about. People who know a little, but not enough to be working in QA.
...and by the way, when I took over an office as manager, the first thing I had to do was fire the QA staff who were paralyzing the transcription staff with their endless meaningless quibbles (1-1/2 pages of instructions on the use of the colon!).
I do know a bit about this.
