It is now this way in MModal Best Practices, which is what our audits are based on, followed by AHDI style guide. BP states no period after genus names, i.e., C difficile, E coli, H pylori. Has been that way awhile. But I have noticed QA often does things differently from one QA to the next, and every PC I have had has had preferences/instructions that differ from the last one. I don't know if the disk/spine, disc/eye thing is in there or it is just the way everyone I have worked for has done it forever.
But you are right, if this had happened in an audit, I could challenge it. It was just a QA'd report though.
