My experience - BTDT

Posted: Dec 8th, 2016 - 8:12 am In Reply to: QUESTION - RETIREMENT

I have worked on site all of my working life. I went through one reduction in force/layoff when I had been in the MT department for 18 years and they kept me as the QA specialist, that lasted 4 years. Then our local hospital went through a conversion, they laid of 8 and kept 2, they now use one of the big services for everything. I'm no longer involved on the transcription side and went to medical records. It is possible that 2 people will remain at your facility after they make the change but I would believe what they are telling you about the positions not being permanent. You are fortunate to be able to retire and my advice to your friends is to keep their options open. Possibly, M-Modal will offer them jobs or they will need to find something else. This sounds like something you will need to address with your current employer as the timeline could change for a number of reasons. If you are leaving, I wouldn't bother getting involved in what might or might not happen. Pathology does seem to be one of the last hold outs but nothing is certain in the MT world anymore. Good luck with your retirement.
