Requesting an SSN on a job application is pretty common, I've been applying for internal positions at my current employer online and they ask. Actually, if they have your name they know your identity. Your drivers license really tells them nothing because the DMV can't release anything to an employer without your consent. If they hire you, they'll ask for it then anyway. I guess you could leave those fields blank unless they were mandatory but I doubt that they were. I guess it would depend on how bad you need the job in regard to what you are willing to share.
