than the relatively simple technology employed for self-scan operations. It will more likely be an adaptation of industrial manufacturing robots for retail and warehouse service. These are vastly more sophisticated technologies than the self-scan equipment. It will not be difficult to modify and calibrate them for food preparation as well as point-to-point transfer of items of any size, loading and unloading materials, sorting, storing, picking, placing, delivering, cleaning, and any number of other tasks that can be broken down to binary instructions.
And they won't call out every Monday with a hangover or need vacations or health insurance or time off to go to court for a traffic ticket. And they won't spit in the food or post stupid pictures of themselves on social media engaged in unhygienic or illegal activities in the food-preparation area.
Investment in robot manufacturers is starting to look better and better.
