No, you can't do it for a good price. Stop and think. sm - Heloise

First, scribe pay is peanuts because if it isn't, that invalidates all those supposed savings from going to an EMR.

Second, you can't get the productivity doing a doc in real time that you can get doing a doc from dictation, nor can you do as many docs in real time as you can from dictation.

Third, if you are going to have to extract what you need from a recording of the whole visit rather than a dictation of the pertinent info, that means you have to listen to the whole visit-which is going to eat time.

How little you want to charge for your time in order to undercut that 12-hour-turnaround time in the industry and how much you want to tie yourself to a desk every minute of every single working day is up to you, of course, but this doesn't sound like a great idea to me.

Best you can realistically offer is that the doc can upload as he goes and will get it all, or all but the last couple of patients, by the end of the day assuming you can work the same hours he does and only take time off when he does and can figure out how to cover it if you have an emergency, get sick, etc. (If you have more than one doc you're trying to keep up with in real time, that pretty much means you never get time off except for a major holiday.)
