For those who are just going to "hop on" and get the work without permission, be aware that they can set up a locked out until your shift and then lock you out once you are OOW.
If people just "hop on" without permission, they will do that, set up a locked out until shift begins and locked out at shift end. Other companies do that.
If you are locked out at those other companies you have to get your manager to "unlock" you.
So I'd think twice about hopping on.
I'm grateful I have a split shift but I am not on call. If I run out of work in the first hour of my 1st or 2nd shift, then I'm not working until the next shift. If they call me, I'll not answer the phone.
They set themselves up for more reports going OTAT. Not a bright move.
