My guess would be that QA didn't like the use of the comma for the 'contrasting idea' at the end of the sentence. There's nothing wrong with a comma between the two clauses (like QA put) but then throwing in the 'contrasting idea' comma would begin to look cumbersome. Bascially, both ways are technically correct and (if anything) it would depend on the emphasis put on the sentence by the dictator. Luckily, it was only feedback but it does give the impression that QA's way is more correct than the MT's, which IMHO, is not true.
