Not as silly as you seem to think - sm

Antigeekess was saying she would not use a current book unless it was "appropriately bubbled and highlighted," a technique taught in one of the courses she espouses. It involves going through the book, circling groups of codes and highlighting parts of them so you can see them readily.

Nothing wrong with that ... I do something similar myself on occasion ... but doing it throughout an entire new book every year takes a lot of time.

Basically, she took a class that coaches you on passing the exam rather than on learning coding thoroughly.

Being limited to using one highlighted book is a big problem. Fine if you plan to code office work, but crippling if you use an encoder, which does not lend itself to highlighting or handwriting.

So, there you are applying for a job in a hospital or medical center, ready to take their coding test with your out-of-date mess of a code book .. pages looking like crepe paper from the highlighting. Right away they peg you as unprofessional (you don't get that you need current books), sloppy, unable to code on your own (without the bubble and paint), and ... unable to use their software.

That is why a lot of people don't get hired.
